Bitches Brew
On the Corner
Get Up With It

(I like the electric stuff the best)
Reason being is I'm not a huge early jazz guy.

Of course I love Kind of Blue, it's great for anytime on Sunday.

In the morning with a cup of coffee.
Cleaning the crib pregame to football.
Cooking Sunday dinner.

But honestly bop & hard bop genres are eras I'm still digging into
at my own slow pace and when I want to find the time to.

The electric stuff is just so vibrant and exciting personally.

I'll stop back in w/ the live albums.
Wanna give a few I like some spins before giving some recs.

live at the fillmore

live at carniege hall

his live sets of dark magus,is tight.

to me his peak and prime was 58-72.

As for Art and the Jazz Messengers I got a tight one they did in japan back in the early 60's. love his stuff.

i vehemently disagree with you 90% of the time, but this is where your insight is appreciated and welcomed. i'm gonna check out those live shows esp, and while i have most of the albums you listed, the Jack Johnson project i do not have.

Betty Davis turned him on to. check out Betty Davis's stuff if you haven't.

always was a Miles Junkie. his bands were insane and so vastly different. the Mid 70's live stuff was crazy and tight. James Mutume. Michael Henderson, John Mclaughlin with his sonic booms on guitar were always sick.

amongest other players he had.

"on the corner" to me is a album that screams to be sampled and looped non stop. i have always felt that way about that album.

Sorry this is a minor post-jack but I was checking out the recent Betty Davis Light in the Attic release of her Columbia demos (of which Miles Davis produced) and was curious if he made any other music for soul singers?

his second quintet is prolly the best jazz band of all time, and that performance is them at the height of their powers.

Free For All is a must hear - one of my favorite records of all time, in particular the title track and "Pensativa" are amazing

The recent "bootleg" series that Sony's been putting out is *really* solid: there's a set with tons of his newport material, and a bunch of shows from the late '60s and early '70s. My favorites are the Live in '69 set and the Fillmore '70 set, both of which really showcase his metamorphosis in that period --- lots of material from Bitches Brew, Miles in the Sky, etc. They're great companions to the studio lps from that era.
