>is that the critique is the absolute opposite of the truth. >Eminem's concepts and subject matter is EXACTLY what made him >one of the greatest ever.
You seem to mixing up "greatest" and "biggest/highest selling"
No snark, you legit seem to be interchanging the two terms.
> >His subject matter is what made him stick out.
Well, that and his skin tone, no?
I'll even leave the white elephant in the room alone.
You're right, his subject matter makes him stick out. Because he always goes for shock value.
Now, I think occasional shock value is a good thing, but its one of like 3 total tricks he has in his bag. > >Now there might be people who don't 'like' his subject matter. > But seriously....he talked about shit that noone ever talked >about in rap or pop music before him the way he did it. And >in a way that was smart, conceptual, clever, all that.
He is very intelligent in the way he puts words together, sure. But I have literally never seen anyone try to argue like this for Eminem's "artistry"
> >Seriously....if you are a person who says Eminem's subject >matter holds him back you have no fucking clue about his >artistry and what makes him the biggest selling pop star (not >just rap star) of the entire fucking 21st century. In >fact...there is NOONE who is in that stratosphere that even >dared to approach the subject matter that eminem made his >career on.
Okay, this is where you are straight up being dishonest. Em was huge because of his skin color (sorry, had to), his timing, and his label knew exactly what to do with him.
Oh, he also dissed pop stars. That was cute.
Rap was getting huge, and a lot of white folk felt left out. They finally found someone who they could "relate" to comfortably, I suppose.
But you don't get to hype all that and not realize that had he been black, he'd have been Canibus.
You also forget his reign on top was shockingly short for such a "great" artist and "genius" who also had the machine behind him.
> >Domestic violence, child abuse, drug use, drug addiction, >clinical depression, suicide, divorce, absentee parents, >poverty. > >Look who he sits with in terms of record sales. Ain't no >Michael Jackson or Beatles or Whitney Houston talking about >any of that shit in THAT WAY? Imagine Elton John singing a >song about Munchauson's Syndrome? > >Subject matter? Shaking my damn head. Eminem is fucking >LEGENDARY. The GOAT of subject matter in that top selling pop >world. There is literally NOBODY that did it better. EVER. >He doesnt' just represent rap to that world....he represents >literature itself. He is THE BEST representation of actual >literature in the top selling pop artists by the time you >arrive at his name down the list. NOONE above him even comes >close to his lyricism.
....**blinks**....Ummm, to all of this I'll just say...wow. And, you're wrong.
But, you know, glad you enjoy him. **shrugs**
