You know what tho, he lived a fantastic life and in the process helped create an important part of American and black music history. It's one of the few deaths recently I feel like we can really celebrate his life without much sadness. Hopefully, his work and legacy get more shine in wake of his death, but tbh I doubt it will. Not very many engineers even have the recognition he does.
2 tidbits I got about RVG. More recently, he did engineering for Christian Scott's Yesterday You Said Tommorow (2010). It's my fav of Scott, a large part because of the dark timbre RVG helped create to turn Scott's political concepts into sonic ideas. Very dope, def worth copping. Second thing is 2 of my fav jazz artists Mingus and Bill Evans did not like RVG's engineering lol. In fact I wanna say Mingus hated him with a passion. I'd have to verify in the Evans biography I read to be sure about his objections with RVG, cuz it's been a while since I read that.
Blue Note and Prestige records made me a fan of jazz, so I thank you sir. #NP: Janelle Monae-DC, Pusha T-Daytona, Royce-Book of Ryan, Blue Note All-Stars-OPOV, Chris Dave/Drumhedz-Glow, Conway-GOAT, Black Milk-Fever, KRIT-4eva Is a Mighty.., Phonte-NNIGN, August Greene, Jericho Jackson @LargesseMorlu
