Completely disagree...Cat been doing it forever, since the days of Organized...stays sharp...so many dope cuts...longevity, creative, messages, battle raps, concepts, even concept albums...his willingness to speak on mental health in the black community is commendable given the taboo nature of the topic in the community...an MC's MC...just one example of his next type ish...

but it opens up a discussion IMO, with top 5 everyone has certain criteria
for example, if someone told me GZA was in their top 5, dude isn't in mine, but I can respect that because despite the fact that his solo career outside of Liquid Swordz isn't all that, he has LS and was a part of Wu classics etc
Monch isn't in my top 5, but when I look at the OK albums (Stress is a 5/5 classic to me) plus his first solo album (even though I enjoyed desire as well) I can see how someone could have him up there....

I'd disagree, arguing the classic quality>quantity angle, but I'm curious, because Monch has put out a good number of albums, 4 solo and 3 with OK. Of course I don't think they are all good......lol
I mean if Nas only released Illmatic and It Was Written....then retired from rap, he would probably still be somewhere in my top 5.....that is not to say Monch is as good as Nas or to say that the rest of Nas' catalogue didn't influence my ranking of him...but yeah

I referred to quantity because you specifically mentioned "more output", but I totally get what your saying now. For everything after Internal Affairs, I agree with your points. Stress is a top 10 hip hop album of all time for me though.
To be honest, I think Monch really needs to sit down and do an album with one producer. I think that would give his projects the focus/consistency that they have lacked in recent times. I'd love to hear a Monch/El-P collab...

I believe we had this conversation before on here about the El-P collabo and I think that is an awful choice for Monch.
When Monch goes the darker route that is when he loses me. El-P's production would just inspire more "butt-fuck MCs" lines and songs like "Rape" which is when I absolutely hate Monch.
Monch is much better when he keeps it soulful or just on some straight boom bap type shit in my opinion.
