Listening to this, I hear the immense potential in what D'Angelo would have meant to US (a generation who was raised alongside hip-hop) and the disappointment that his career had such a large gap of nothingness when we needed him the most.
In particular, the take on "Brown Sugar" that is collected here... it's a shout out to those who "know". He would have been the BRIDGE.

of the Voodoo tour arrangements on some of these. And it is better quality than much of what's out there from that tour, in terms of both audio and their playing. On the tour recordings I've heard they got way more loose with tempos to the point that it got sloppy at points. This right here though? LOCKED in.
