"Fat Joe Says "I Got A Story To Tell" Was About Anthony Mason"

Not sure what kind of authority Fat Joe has here, but this is interesting nonetheless.

Music and sports fans alike have spent years trying to figure out the true identity of the unnamed New York Knick mentioned in Biggie’s “I Got A Story To Tell.” Bomani Jones and Dan Le Batard, hosts of ESPN’s Highly Questionable, have been particularly dogged in their pursuit of the truth, and today brought them a breakthrough.

Fat Joe was the guest on today’s episode of Highly Questionable, and he claims that the song was about former Knick Anthony Mason, who died last year at the age of 48.

The long-held curiosity about the song is understandable, given that in it Biggie claiming to have boned a mystery Knick’s girlfriend and then robbed him at gunpoint after being caught in the act. In case you’ve forgotten just how mean the song is:

Play the cut, nigga coming off some love potion shit
Flash the heat on em, he stood motionless
Dropped the glass screaming, “Don’t blast here’s the stash,
a hundred cash just don’t shoot my ass, please!”
Nigga pulling mad G’s out the floor
Put stacks in a Prada knapsack, hit the door
Grab the keys to the five, call my niggas on the cell
Bring some weed I got a story to tell, uhh...

Rappers take plenty of creative license, but still: poor Anthony Mason.

"I wasn't sure if I was lost or running away again. . ."
