"5 MC's Who Influenced You/5 MC's You'd Wanna Produce"

For this week's ep of my podcast I'm chopping it up with my peoples Yaw (ESPN's NFL Countdown) & okayplayer's own Nick's Got A Serious Problem about our top 5 MC's BUT from a different view point. Since Yaw's a MC I'm asking him the top 5 MC's that influenced him. Me being a producer, I'm talking about my top 5 MC's I'd wanna produce and Nick being a fan of hip hop, he's talking about his 5 favorite MC's.

So...my question for the boards is if you're a MC who were 5 MC's who influenced you and why? If you're a producer, who are the 5 MC's you'd wanna produce and why? And if you're a fan who are you 5 favorite MC's and why?

Being a producer I've always wanted to work with #1 Common just because I think he's dope, #2 Ras Kass because I've never felt like he had good enough beats to match his rhymes, #3 Black Thought cause he's the illest, #4 Rakim because he's Rakim and I'm sure most people won't admit to this but my 5th pick is whatever rapper is selling the most records at the time cause I want a BIG royalty check lol!

When I 1st started(94-early 2000s/no longer active)MCing...

1-I had a vocal pitch sort of like Imani and Bootie Brown.

2-I had flow patterns that were similar to Soul of Mischief.

3-My content was mostly "conscious"/"regular rap life" stuff ala Dela Soul.

4-I eventually morphed into a more abstract style after Camp Lo emerged but more so in a Dela way but def. taken to the next level because of Camp Lo.

5-Through it all, I always had an underlying Black Thought influence.

Who I've always wanted to produce for...?

1-Dela Soul
2-Piakhan

3-Crucial Conflict (I don't fit the script. Im just a fan)
4-Mr. Roam
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jK3MIu-2FUM
5-Digable Planets

Fresh Kid Ice--I'd give him some backpacker beats and make him the next next next Kool Keith.

Ghostface--I'd wanna see how he sounds over prog rock loops. We've heard him over every beat imaginable except for that.

Riff Raff--I'd hire a live band. And make him explore his singing voice more. seriously.

Ka--I could listen to him rap all day. I'd have him write an album with no choruses, just bars bars bars. Hire Pete Rock to scratch stuff in the background.

Nas--I'd subcontract to Premier to FINALLY get that collab off the ground.

Happy 50th D’Angelo: https://chrisp.bandcamp.com/track/d-50

IT's funny you ask cause I can rattle the name of 5 MC's I've always wanted to work with like I can with my kid's names lol!

#1 Rakim...I always felt like Rakim was still nice as hell but didn't have one producer to REALLY vibe out with to make a fully dope album.

#2 Kane...this is a personal challenge to myself cause when Kane fell he might have fallen the hardest of all MC's and I'd love to see if I could give him something to make him relevant again.

#3 Drake...because I'd love to hear him be a hip hop artist instead of a pop artist.

#4 Master Ace...I've never been in love with his production since his sophomore album.

#5 Guru...RIP but I always wanted to work with Guru cause SO many people think he's wack without Primo which isn't true he just got subpar or wack production without Prim. And I'm not talking about the Jazzmatazz albums either. I'm talking his baldhead slick hip hop stuff.

as a rapper, mine are Rakim, KRS ONE, Ghostface, Redman, and Tash/Catastraphe from the Liks.

As a producer I'd want to work with Rakim, KRS ONE, Common, MC Ren, and King Tee.
