"Elucid is running 2016"

Have people checked the new album?

https://elucid.bandcamp.com/album/save-yourself

I'm still unpacking it, but it is phenomenal. Dude is just on another level.

He also dropped an ep earlier in the year that is also fantastic. Usually I get a little irritated when tracks aren't separated, but it WORKS here.

Who else has checked these out?

Pre-ordered it and finally got the CD on Friday. But with Prince's death, I put listening to other music on hold.

Finally bumped it yesterday and today. Yeah, lots to unpack, but dude definitely very much as it. He's still sharp as hell on the rhymes, and is dope on the beats too. Throwback to some of the "weirdo" shit that I used to bump in the late '90s/early '00s.

Sure. In no order:

Kool Keith
Antipop Consortium
Beans
Anticon crew (Sole, Dose-1, Alias, JEL, Why?)
Rubberoom
Busdriver
Rob Sonic
Cryptic-One/Hangar-18 (Anyone Atoms Family affiliated)
Typical Cats crew (Qwel, Qwazarr, Denizen Kane)
Sage Francis
K-The-I????
Mr. Dibbs

Mid to late '00s, I'd include anything Super Chron Flights Bros./Billy Woods/Priviledge/Reavers/Bond affiliated.

Really glad he stepped into his own production lane too. So many of the verses are intense not just with his voice and delivery, but with the content, and it feels like with his own production he's really able to take it where he needs. Really happy about this one.

Not sure what you are referring to, but hope all is okay with him now.

I'm over here scratching me head a little at the crickets.

I get Prince's passing has a lot of folks distracted, and I get that.

I hope that's all it is, though.

Because these two releases are his best work to date IMO. And this is coming from someone who straight stanned over Cult Favorite and Sub Bass Diet.

I mean, If You Say So? Blame the Devil? No Grand Agenda? Shii!t...I''l stop.

Not to be selfish but, I got the sense there were many releases in the works...like wasn't there a collab with Von Pea? That ever coming out or was it shelved?

He growls his verses and sounds like he was made to be the perfect mixtape gun rapper. But his lyrics are thoughtful, non-sexist, generally non-violent, relationship-oriented, sensitive stuff. It just so happens its all delivered like he's in G-Unit.

I never got a G-Unit vibe but I can see(hear) your general point.

I could be wrong, but I think Elucid has cited Beanie Sigel as an influence, for what that is worth...

Album is starting to fire on all cylinders for me. I suppose 'Jealous God' is what prompted me to say the beats sound like noise earlier. Pretty much running this constantly now.

I agree. Woods is much better. I can at least semi understand most of Billy's verses and they have evoked genuine emotion over the years. I don't know what Elucid is ever talmbout.

Unless you were just trying to be funny
Woods is NOT seeing E
I get that you could be attracted to his more straightforward flow to Elucids more abstract bars
But I would respectfully disagree

I was trying to be funny. We'll agree to disagree here. Woods is more my speed the way KA is as opposed to Elucid being more along the Aesop Rock side of things I tend to eschew.

But the more I play this album the more I get Elucid. Woods has the cooler voice though for sure.

Is that I am a HUGE Elucid fan and cannot get into Aseop Rock.

I somehow find Elucid's voice/delivery dope, even melodic at times.

But I can't get into Aseop Rock. (sometimes it seems like that dude forces his voice too though. Like he has to drink lemon water for a straight week after recording)

I'm also a huge Woods fan, but nah Elucid is better.

Hell even Woods says so. The biggest Elucid fan out there might be Billy Woods.

Elucid doesn't have something like a 'Rpms' that I've heard yet. Woods seems like someone who's a bit more experienced in sordid things street related to me. To me Woods is one the most prolific writers the last stretch of years. Elucid is his friend/groupmate that i'm checking for simply on the strength of Woods' co sign.

But like I said, It's starting to click heavily.

Beautiful album

Beautiful in a dark, eerie way though - some of this production is just incredible - the way the beat shifts throughout "Lest They Forget"...are you kidding me?

I had never heard an Elucid project before, but this is dope as hell, dude can really rhyme and the beats are great

He kinda reminds me of an artist I work with rap style wise.

Refreshing.
