Both the first two albums are classics. All Balls more in the Good Life jazzy vein. Human Language more cohesive and compelling. I can't call it.

Accepted Eclectic was exactly that - a little eclectic, outside what we were used to from him to a certain extent. But I still loved that shit in HS and still love it now. Just listened to it recently I think because of a discussion in here though I'm not sure. Hadn't listened to him in general in a while but checked out some of his recent work due to said conversation and liked it. Not quite as lyrical all the time but still good stuff.

Love the variety of production and guest MCs on All Balls Don't Bounce. Fat Jack, the Nonce, CVE, Mumbles, Abstract Rude, Myka 9, PEACE. Goodlife/Project Blowed at it's finest.

Annalilia, B-Boy Kingdom and The Greatest Show on Earth are the standouts for me.
As far as b-side stuff from that time, this is my jam

Toon me a bit to figure out the Blowed and where these dudes were coming from, even though I'm a Cali native. I was just so stuck on East Coast Boom Bap stuff, but I eventually got the frequency and I'm glad I did. Side note, I was always pissed when The Source gave all Blowed related albums such mediocre to poor reviews. East Coast bias like a muthfucka.

The Greatest Show on Earth was my favorite track on ABDB. Glad Mumbles did all the production on the followup. Love both albums.

Feat Upon The Table is one of my all time favorite posse cuts. I remember my friend letting me borrow this 12" and the "To Whom It May Concern" vinyl back in high school. When I got them home they were all warped cuz he left them in the back of his Blazer all day. I had to explain to him that they were effed up when I got them.

heavy. It was like the first round of Wu-Tang releases where the solos constantly made you aware that they were trying to prosper as a unit. I wonder if Mikah's scrapped debut was going to have the same feel.

Acey sounded like a natural over many of those beats, which was sometimes a trip because some of them were close to a decade old by the time Acey rhymed over them.

Mumbles made some of those beats when he was still in high school. "Wall and Windows" comes to mind. As well as some others.

BOHL was like 1997, right? or 1998?

So some of them beats were from 1988????

I dunno, man.....them shits were hella modern sounding for back then.

If that's true....that dude was WAYYYYY ahead of his time...which is a shame that he didn't have more output if that's the case.

Two clarifications:

1 I had it in my mind BOHL came out in like 1999/2000. I was misremebering. Some of the beats date back to like 1990. So that's not quite 10 years. My bad.

2. It's some, not all of the beats.

3. Yeah, it's a shame he didn't do more. But I think Mumbles got kinda disillusioned after the BOHL experience. Ended up,selling off lots of his record collection and whatnot.

That's the thing: there isn't much beyond BOHL. There's a few scattered instrumental tracks around when BOHL was released. Then there was a promo for an album that was supposed to come out on Sound In Color (the "Below the Heavens" label), but never did because the label folded. Even some of the songs on that were old. At least one (probably both) of the Aceyalone songs on it were from the BOHL sessions.

Sound in Color project. Have you ever heard it? Everywhere I see online, it's being promoted as if it's co-starring Aceyalone, even though he's only on two tracks.

I don't know a ton about him or that whole collective, intimately. I know their music but outside of that I never really went out of my way to follow their careers in-depth. So just curious what you mean by that.

Well, that's the part that I really shouldn't get into. It's kind of not for me to say. I think I've said stuff on here before about the situation, but I shouldn't have.

I will say that Mumbles really wasn't a product of the Good Life/Project Blowed collective as most think of it (unlike, say Fatjack or Homicide). He's a producer from the Bay who was going to college in LA and was working to get into the biz. He was cool with Cut Chemist and his associated crew and got hooked up with Acey from having dope beats.

I'll just say that if you think of all the shit that could happen to that could make you disillusioned with the record business, you'd have a good idea of what happened with Mumbles.
