"Poll question: Favorite Xzibit Album"
Thu Mar-03-16 10:06 PM by Anonymous

I think I know most will pick his debut.

But I personally always liked 40 Dayz the best.

Then I know some people hopped on the X-to-the-Z train after the Em and Dre co-sign and may like Restless the best. I think it's one of the best albums made specifically geared towards mainstream success.

He lost me at Man Vs Machine. I though Weapons of Mass Destruction was dope though.

Haven't paid attention to the rest.

Thoughts?

It's a shame Weapons of Mass Destruction didn't get any shine because of the terrible singles though. Hell, I even dug Restless (Loud N Clear will always be my shit)

Yep.

Why the disclaimer ?! If you *didn't* dig Restless, it would be weird. Liking it is the majority, I think. If I live in a world where the majority of people don't like Restless I don't want to be a part of it anymore.

...to be the most picked. I love his debut too but I think he was at his most polished on 40 Dayz. Both are great tho. As is Restless.

His later work is actually pretty good. I'm sad that he fell out of the spotlight. I always loved his flow and he has great personality. His later work is nowhere near his first 3 albums but still there's a lot to like.

There's really nothing wrong with that album. Like I said, he clearly swung for the fences and hit it out of the park while maintaining his style. I appreciate that because it's such a fine line when you reach that type of mainstream success.

The production is top notch. The features are dope. He has a few dope concepts on there. I guess the one flaw would be Fuckin You Right but even that is dope for what it is.

40 Dayz probably has the highest highs to me. 3 Card Molly, What U See, Focus, Deeper, LA Times, and Recycled Assassins (that beat is amazing) are some my favorite X songs period. But I always hated the middle section from Nobody Sound Like Me, Pussy Pop, Chronic Keeping Interlude, and Shroomz. I played everything except for Pussy Pop when the album dropped but listening now...that quarter of the album kills the overall album.

The debut was always a little disjointed to me. I originally loved X for his harder/darker joints so At The Speed, Eyes May Shine, Paparazzi, Foundation, Carry The Weight, and Enemies and Friends are all great. But the Hurricane G joint, the King Tee joint (which I appreciate now) Hit and Run, and Plastic Surgery always stood out as at least a step down from what I wanted from X. The Liks joint was dope but was somewhat in the middle for me. I always loved the album and X was one of my favorites since but something always seemed a little off on this album overall.

You have to understand, being an east coast head at the time, what made us love Xzibit was that he sounded more east coast than west when he first dropped. I didn't dislike west coast but preferred the east coast sound. So tracks like Paprazzi and Eyes May Shine is what I wanted from Xzibit. Positively Negative was not what I was expecting. It was cool but definitely different in style than what I liked Xzibit for in 96.

Kendrick uses a lot of different voices. We all acknowledge that but that was Tash regular voice. Wasn't no changing that. Like I said, he was dope. Just didn't dig his voice all the time.

Which is why me and all my folks I grew up with prefer Restless. We were more into what we could ride around and bump...with the basslines n all that. 40 Dayz was dope for sure, and he was a better rapper on there, but we played Restless from front to back (no pun intended) because it was just that new era G-Funk that we were into the most.
