i mean when Norman Whitfield went and got Stargate who sound exactly like 70's era pointer Sisters and match it almost that speaks volumes.

the 80's era of the Pointer sisters which has that cali gloss Pop they did with RIchard Perry and obvious Jacking tracks of others
but they were the female version of Kool and the gang in that context
and flipped the script from the 70's.

however 70's era Pointer sisters just lacked more bigger hits, however from a stylist perspective they covered a wide range of styles
and it worked. they could be funky, I know I can, can, covered Springsteen "Fire" and turned that out
and do that valley girl Pop.

they have gospel roots.

truly unsung if you get right down to it, what hurts them is the same thing that hurt Patti labelle
and that is settling for Chucky Cheese Cheese and while it hit, it made them accessible to any and everything and they get lost to the newbies and the ones who don't dig back in crates

They strike me as entertainers... a funk-song here, a jazz-standard there, some soul, a little it of pop, some rock'n'roll and so on... More of a talented variety-troupe than a great act with a killer sound behind them, at least that's my impression...

I like them though outside of the 80's MTV shit...

and nothing wrong with that because Bette Midler got over that way. personally Black Acts catch heat for doing that Carol Barnett and Friends routine of entertainment however that is Old School entertainer in the truest sense think of Sammy Davis Jr.

James Brown did that in a way.

the 80's Pointer sister is why they get the titanic ship be sinking reaction, however they were legit.
