Prince’s Unsung (Imagine with all of the Unsung production and music)

Prince as a lost kid with a jazz dad

Signs with WB - “that boy good”

Limited success with first two albums "A&R was stumped'

Dirty Mind and getting Freaky

Purple Rain…Boom!

Retreats with Around the World…"WB was stumped.."

Breakup the Revolution

Uh oh-Graffiti Bridge

I’m Back…Diamonds and Pearls/The Most Beautiful Girl

SLAVE- WB hate - "what's his name now?"

Emancipation!

The death of the baby

Declining sales

RnR Hall of Fame; Musicology; the man is back!

Superbowl triumphant!

When I listen to KC & the Sunshine band.. i hear more full complete SONGS. Always thought Prince could've used better producers for his music than himself but Prince was so bent on trying to be the next Stevie Wonder trying to write, produce everything and release as much music as possible that it hurt a lot of the songs. The production on KC & the Sunshine Band songs still sounds outstanding and fresh to this day and they definitely got more songs to get the party going.
For someone like Prince who acts like he got a lot of party songs.. where are his party songs? He got the 2 Time songs...
one of which was written by Jesse, 1999 which has this dated theme today.. the other ones are X rated songs that are not suited for anything outside a strip club. Prince made more the kind of music for isolated individuals who like their artists being isolated . Prince may have more material but it should never be about quantity it should be about quality

U r def. hitting that mark as a more nuanced, less bombastic cousin of Maxx. I will give u that....lol

Prince party songs....

Soft & Wet
Sexy Dancer
Uptown
Controversy
Let's Work
Erotic City (song played on daytime radio....x-rated? Not so much...)
777-9311
The Stick
The Walk
Cool
1999 (the dated remark is quite lazy, no. A classic is a classic...We play that game all day...)
DMSR
Kiss
Glamorous Life
Love Bizxarre
Housequake
Rock Hard In A Funky Place

We can go on and on....I mean, it's gotten to the point where you are now saying Prince cannot even measure up to the production talents of KC & The Sunshine Band....No wonder u think the Midget is not even in the conversation with Stevie....lol

That explains a lot....

and you keep showing your tongue is in Prince's deep end. Rock Hard in a Funky
place is a party jam to you?? lmao
A lot of those songs you mention are not known songs in the real world and DJs don't rely on many of them to gather people to throw a big party. It's cool songs to play when you bring couple of friends over but i'm talking about bigger parties with a wide range of nationalities and ages. I've been to many clubs and never heard most of the songs you mention. It's either too weird or too inappropriate. and didn't Prince say he would retire 1999 after the year 1999. of course he brought the song back cause he dosen't seem to have much to fill up his setlists nowadays but let's face it, a lot of his songs are not withstanding time as good as you think. Listen to Thieves in the temple, Cream or Get off and tell me this stuff still sounds good today
Go to any party and you'll probably hear That's the Way it.
Their stuff aged better than Prince's music imo
As for Stevie just deal with the fact that I'm not the only saying he's much better so stop crying

does he even do often entire shows without covering songs?? A lot of his material is too inappropriate or weird for him nowadays. He did the superbowl thing and covered songs. What does that tell you?

I don't blame Prince for covering others because that garbage he been putting out over 25 years is so horrible that the garbage crew ain't touching that mess. his stuff stays going Copper.

they actually think that turkey still counts?

they think the world bathes in purple and washes its soul that way as well.

they are in denial about him looking and searching for a legit song
and making something that matters.

Prince been a covers Vegas act for almost 20 years straight and can't help himself because he been washed up for almost 30 years.

and his oldies songs alot of them sound dated as all get out now.

that's the thing. He's clearly not satisfied with what he got so still tries to come up with radio songs to this day but fails. Look at how he morphed Extraloveable into something that was supposed to be more dancable and missed. Funknroll was another lame attempt at getting a club banger. Same with Dance 4 me. He dosen't have a big cool party jam like Billy Jean, Lets Dance, Give It To me Baby or Keep it Coming Love and he knows this.

not anymore. the days of DMSR are long gone. he either overdoes it or he just doesn't connect.

and he still plays sides to sides with trying to write one way for R&B and another for POP.

yeah Prince that turkey talking about Macking in 2015, i guess he about that creep life at the oldies but goodies parlor?

more coaster music he is consistant.

why does he feel the need to cover a song like Play that funky Music often in his live shows?? And if i remember correctly.. didn't Prince perform with the KC and the sunshine band a while back??? oh that's right he did!!!! Even Prince loves to party and jam with KC and the sunshine Band!!! That means you shouldn't party with Prince either.

I can tell you this. Back on the Jam of the Year tour, saw Prince in Charlotte on a Saturday night, then Atlanta the next night, right?

The Charlotte show, he did a little Motown medley. The Atlanta show, and hell, now that I think about it, the other two shows on that tour that I saw, he didn't do any covers, except for playing 777 in Greensboro, but that really aint a cover.

It pretty much depends on the market. He was in Charlotte, a city known for having a lot of old white people with money, who dig that type of shit. A lot of his fans, that go really really deep, where he could play a song like "Horny Toad" and theyd go nuts? They weren't shelling out the loot that cost to go see him like that. Just cause he does cover songs doesn't mean that he doesn't have a rack of great songs..just means that he likes others "party songs" too.

You honestly believe that Dj's wont drop DMSR in a party? But youre hanging your hat on KC and the Sunshine Band having "better party songs" cause you'll hear them being played at your local cougars den? Ahite then...I guess "Macarena" is the greatest song ever then.

How many party songs Stevie got?

stop acting like Prince dosen't cover songs often. He's notorious for covering songs live at this point. He got a lot of his fans complaining about this too. and you haven't responded to the fact that Prince himself jammed and partied with KC & the Sunshine Band. He's a fan
And you didn't answer my question about Prince covering PLay that funky music frequently in his live shows either.

You were clowning me for saying that KC got party songs when Prince himself partied with this band and has shown to be a fan. So my reponse to that was that you shouldn't party with Prince either..and Play That Funky music is a song he's covered very very frequently in the past few years. He didn't do this song just for a select few shows. Why would he need to do this if he got so many better party songs to choose from according to y'all??

2. Prince plays covers during his concerts for the same reasons any act plays covers during their concerts. the reasons are myriad.

3. Prince avoided playing covers on stage and on wax for many years. the man can definitely perform for hours w/o playing any covers. he's not playing them b/c he doesn't have enough songs in his catalog to fill out a set list. LOL

Yes i know this. my point was in this entire thread that he lacks songs in this departement imo. You're coming up with excuses for him. He clearly chooses to cover songs because he feels that they will make his shows better and give him more fan reaction.
It's like when he chooses a Hendrix song over one of his new rock songs.
and songs like Housequake or Feel u up or La La la hee hee hee are not a BIG party anthems that will make people rush to a dance floor like a Hollywood Swinging or a Play that FUnky Music or a Give It Up or a Get Lucky. That's all I'm saying. and Prince back then didn't rely on covering songs as often as he does now because he was more theatrical back then. He could squeeze in the weird songs and deliver a great show. Nowadays he's more in party mode.

Which department? Disco jams? Lol.

Btw, he has at least 2 of those - I Wanna Be Your Lover (#1 R&B hit and #2 on Dance in 1979) and 'Sexy Dancer'.

You're coming up with

You don't know why he plays cover songs. Your proposed reason is preposterous. You might know that if you'd ever seen the man live in concert. Lol

Lol. Or he plays the Hendrix song bc he digs that song. Or bc he wants to make a statement. Or bc he wants to tribute Hendrix. Or any other number of reasons. You have no clue, clearly.

I have SEEN ppl jump out of their seats bc Prince played a _snippet_ of 'Housequake'. Please shut up.

Dude... Kc & the Sunshine's greatest hits album consist of all party jams lol
are you seriously telling me Prince's songs can really measure up to their party songs??
And as I posted before, Prince still tries hard to this day at 57 years of age to make party songs cause he's not completely satisfied in what he got in this area.

Nobody can be better than Prince in anything in their mind. lol
they act like Prince got the party areas covered better than KC & the sunshine band which is funny enough.

Lets be real here.. a lot of those songs have lost staying power as hits with time and time will keep hurting some of them.
Not saying KC and Sunshine band got the most hits but just saying..

KC had real horn charts and a fuller sound. KC's classics bang harder than Prince's and got more versatilty as well.

they got a world Music vibe going.

anybody pretty much can do what Prince did. KC though been doing this and made fuller music

KC with a full Band was happening whereas when Prince has a full band he sounds like somebody's drunk uncle

Maxx clearly has a few usernames he uses.

Claims to hate Prince, yet, he just can't stop talking about him.

Maxx, your pet gerbil needs to be fed.

i stand by what i said and no changes here whatosever. Prince was important back in the day, however Harry Wayne Casey did his thing as well. i use to dig alot of Prince and i got stories for days, however RIP and Respect, But Prince isabout ranked 25-50 on my all time list and Harry wayne Casey is ahead of him and of Course R.Kelly,Michael Jackson,RIck James, Stevie WOnder, Marvin Gaye, Lionel RIchie,Smokey RObinson are ahead as is Sly Stone,Barry White,

i can talk music and have my opinion. not everybody was coco puffs over Prince get over it. He was something else when i was a Kid and I give him respect however he ain't seeing no KC IMO.
