"Ryan Adams--1989"

Really enjoying this entire-album cover of 1989.

Like Morgan James'/Doug Wamble's cover of Black Messiah, Ryan's stripped-down version of 1989 has me realizing how solid the songwriting itself is.

Ryan cited Meat is Murder-era Smith's as a reference for the production and arrangement. I can see that, but I was hearing more early-Springsteen.

Never listened to him and really don't like her so that says a lot

Early Springsteen is spot on

But I'm really baffled at anyone who's not a fangirl can say that this isn't better than what she did. Her music is soulless and she's not a good singer

If this shows that she or her team are good songwriters, then fine, good for them. Altho Bad Blood and Shake It Off sound like garbage (Blank Space was tight though) I can rock with most of the album

It's one of the best pop albums I've heard in a long long time. I'm not a fan of Ryan Adams, but I do look forward to hearing his interpretation of it. I'd love to hear more artists doing this, I remember Beck was doing it a few years ago which I enjoyed.

But this is what I imagine a Dawsons Creek sountrack to soundlike. Not a good thing.

Paula Cole's "this fire" album was fucking FIRE! No joke.

About Ryan's 1989, yeah, I can see how it may not appeal to everyone.

Haha!

I've grown to appreciate Taylor as a complete pop artist. Her strength has been writing songs from personal experiences, no matter how trite. And her singing voice expresses her vulnerability really effectively--and man, do her fans respond! I went to her show last month (damn, I guess I am a fanboy!) and she had the entire 60k audience in the palm of her hand. Only time I've seen something like that was at a Prince concert. Same shit, different demographics.

Production-wise, I still really dig Taylor's 1989. So much ear candy and details everywhere--STILL on that Fine Young Cannibals snare! Those tracks rock the shit outta football stadiums. Great balance between nostalgic 80s stuff and modern sounds.

I will say that Ryan's version of Stay blows Taylor's out the water. Had that one on repeat all day.

Shake it Off hit me right off the bat. Perfect pop song to me. Out of the Woods, Wildest Dreams, Wish You Would, Clean, This Love...

Yeah I thought it might be a free side project when the buzz started. But I happily dropped cash on it cuz it's worth it.

i love that there's no irony or "hey look what i'm doing" sort of attitude in any of the songs. he embodied them and made them his in every way. everything about it is great.

That's one thing I cannot stand in cover songs.
