"Remember Dr. Dre 'Compton'..."

Because no one is talking about it anymore... Because it was trash..

Once the hype and adrenaline wore off everyone moved on.

Am I right?

There's alot of stuff in it but most of it is unnecessary.

It served its purpose though. Hopefully Dre has shaken off the jitters and will drop something better next year.

Him making monster and alien voices throughout prevented that from happening. I'd say about 90% of the "rapping" and singing on this album sucks.

The production is solid, if not particularly memorable or special. Fair or not, let's face it....expectations will always be really high for Dre in this regard.

I was excited it came out and excited to listen the first time, but it's not an album I see myself going back to beyond a few songs.

I love Dr. Dre. He's one of my favorite artists of all time.

Doesn't mean this album isn't complete garbage. Dr. Dre is supposed to make timeless next level music. This isn't even mediocre. It's just awful.

with a few good parts and pretty much nothing great. Still got praised generally though in the media, I imagine that is because it is Dr. Dre - that record just seems to lack that special factor that the two past ones had. Most of those beats sound like they could end up on any mainstream rap album and the rapping is not good.

and lets be real ain't nobody else except maybe Outkast who have been around a long time
and ain't put out nothing in illions, ain't many acts in any style of music that can still polarize as much as Dre.

loved or loathed the man still gets at people.

anyway the album was just ok, however he cashed in hype
and it worked.

if he brought that G Funk back heads would be happy. thats the key

After that initial spin or two where I was pleasantly surprised, I haven't been back to it.

one of the more recent Champs podcast eps played "genocide" during outro...and i had to instantly find out who that was (which never happens for me these days). sure, rest of album is hit/miss--but that track?!

and then somehow you guys tricked me into checking out that Big Grams thing..

....the entire thing. But if he didn't think he did enough on a song to even be named in production credits that's disappointing to me. I don't look to Dre albums for other people's production. I listen for his production.

I don't care about his writing. I listen to Dre for his production work, which he did very little of on this album, if the Wiki credits are to be believed (and we have no other source of info that I know of).

...doesn't mean he didn't play an instrumental (no pun intended) part in the production of ALLLLL the album's tracks.

Like I said above, I know he exec produced and mixed and engineered the entire thing. But I want Dre beats. That's all I'm saying.

For the record, I'm one of the biggest Dre fans you could possibly find. Been listening to him since like 1991, when I was in 2nd grade. Legit was *obsessed* with him and Snoop when they first got together, as a 2nd grader. So you're not talking to one of those "Dre steals beats!" morons, or anything like that.

I just like hearing Dre beats. This album is full of Dre oversight. The engineering is fucking impeccable. The mixing is flawless.

But it's missing DAT FUNK, as someone so eloquently said in the original post about this album. Outside of like 2 or 3 tracks, it's missing that Dre PRODUCTION edge that I listen to Dre ALBUMS for.

And it's OK, for real. This album still has some replay value for me. I loved a few songs right off the bat (Genocide, All In a Day's Work, Just Another Day, Animals), and had several grow on me quite a bit (Loose Cannons, Darkside/Gone, One Shot/One Kill, Satisfiction, Medicine Man, Talking to My Diary)....but outside of like...Just Another Day and Talking to My Diary, this album is COMPLETELY devoid of the FUNK and sounds at times like a rock album. Lots of noise, very little rhythm. Dre is known for his rhythm.

That's what disappointed me.

Sorry. This edit turned into a quasi-review, one that I've been putting off writing while I gathered my thoughts. I have far more to say. But that's it for now. Haha.

I never even made it through the full album. A cruel joke is what that album was.

Pretty much the case with any album around here. Might talk about an album for a week and then on to the next one.

specifically both kendrick tracks, the game track, "animals" "love of money" "satisfaction" some other goodies, but any album that puts 5 tracks in normal rotation these days is a win imo
