I love mean some late 90's Puba...but he could come off a little ham handed on the mic sometimes. CL was smooth (no pun) even when he wasn't saying shit...and he put on a display on Main Ingredient...just BODIED it.

mcee. Master of Ceremony Puba, Brand Nubian Puba, and lazy solo Puba are all better Mc's than CL Smooth. CL Smooth is a consistently good MC who was working with a legendary producer. And before anyone jumps in with the Guru/Gangstarr comparisons, CL couldn't touch Guru in his heyday either.

6. "C.L. Smooth Hands Down" In response to Reply # 0
Grand Puba Maxwell was and is nice but he ain't touching C.L. Smooth by a longshot, yeah I got Masters Of Ceremonies and I got three of his solo albums and Brand Nubians albums too but C.L. has said more slick lines and has said more wordplay on both albums (and the remixes) he's done with Pete Rock and his "American Me" album than Puba has.
Not saying Puba ain't lyrical but not as lyrical as C.L. has been, now if we're talking about who can rap the sexy rapper talk than the other than yeah Grand Puba got than category "2000" proves that but I still like how C.L. throws the punchlines in his though.
