"Hip-Hop Orchestra @ Carnegie Hall *Press Release*"

From the Streets of Philadelphia to the Stage at Carnegie Hall

(August 24, 2015 – NEW YORK) – Jeffrey McNeill, better known as Thee Phantom, an Artist who combines Hip-Hop with live orchestration, will be bringing his B-Boy Meets Beethoven style to Carnegie Hall on November 1, 2015 at 8PM. http://www.carnegiehall.org/Calendar/2015/11/1/0800/PM/Thee-Phantom-and-the-Illharmonic-Orchestra/

Music saves lives. For McNeill, that statement isn't a slogan – it's a reminder. As a young man coming of age in Philadelphia, PA., at the height of the crack epidemic in the 80's and 90's, music was his escape. He wrote his first rhyme at the age of eight, took flute and piano lessons as an adolescent, and mixed Beethoven's Fifth Symphony with the Beastie Boys' "Paul Revere" at age 13.

His dream of one day performing at Carnegie Hall was almost cut short one fateful night in 1992. Shortly after midnight, while returning home from a friend’s going-away party, he and a classmate were waiting for the bus on a North Philadelphia corner, where they were approached by a man who held a shotgun to their heads and demanded money. The only thing that saved them that night was that the gunman recognized McNeill from a series of house parties that he had performed at in the neighborhood. "Keep rapping" were the prophetic words the would-be assailant yelled as he drove away. This moment was memorialized on a track entitled, "The Night Hip-Hop Saved My Life," which appeared on Thee Phantom's second album, "Making Of An Underdog."

Twenty three years later, Phantom is finally close to making his dream a reality. Jeffrey, his wife Andrea who performs by his side as The Phoenix, and their Illharmonic Orchestra will perform at Carnegie Hall on November 1, 2015. Recognizing that there are young men and women out there who could benefit from also having music in their lives, Phantom is donating a portion of his music and merchandise sales to VH1's Save the Music Foundation. McNeill says, “Music opened up an entirely different world for me than the one I was living in. Partnering with Save the Music allows me to give back and hopefully provide an outlet for other young, dreamers like myself.” Contributions to the groups Save the Music campaign can be made on their website: http://www.theephantom.hiphop/save-the-music-donation/
