"Poll question: a Run DMC Biopic would be interesting"

to me of all the rap bio's you could put out how is RUN DMC forgoten in the discussion when you consider they influenced NWA, PE and others also they were ground breakers for their time.

and i still see folks rocking their RUN DMC jerseys and T shirts.

we know tougher than leather was about as memorable idelwild. but still this is RUN DMC that movie should be obvious and yet its not.

An origin story that ended with Raising Hell would be good.

But everything after Tougher Than Leather THE MOVIE is a roller coaster of misery.

The alcoholism leading to Run and DMC going crazy (one a Rev, one a "singer.")

The Back Form Hell album disappointment.

And then the health issues and murder of one of them would be a bad way to end it, IMHO.

But that album's 40% good, 50% filler. (And 10% margin of error.)

Reminder: I bought it the week it came out.

And I saw them perform live a few years later.

AND I remember JMJ's successes with Onyx.

But it all gets way, way too dark after that.

Rev Run is something I CAN NOT relate too. I blame alcohol for that and for D's fall. I mean that episode of Toy Hunter made me sad to watch.

And JMJ gets shot, then in a car crash, and then murdered when he was 37??

Way too sad.

I'm down with the origin story - but it quickly turns into a cautionary tale.

the struggles are what makes the biopic potentially interesting. A movie with a constant upward trajectory would be boring because that isn't they things work.

First off a bio-pic covering this much time 1983-2009 about 3 people will necessarily miss a lot of the messiness.

And yes, life is messy - but these guys went through many disasters - compressing the rise/rise/rise/fall/fall/rise/fall/fall/fall/fall/awards cycle ain't going to happen in 2 hours (or 2:30pm.)

*I'm* not into the idea of telling this entire story in such a short time. I think concentrating on 1983-1986 would be the best idea for an interesting narrative film.

I agree with ending at the latest at Down With The King, because Crown Royal doesn't exist for me. And then they became an "oldies" act.

As X-Clan once recorded "Maybe I'm not the target audience for this."

Other Biopics I haven't seen: Ali, Ray, The Social Network, Straight Out Of Compton.

It would show their history and everything up until that point, ending with the moment Run does My Adidas and had everyone in MSG putting there Shell toes in the air. Countless people have this moment signifying them wanting to do rap or be part of the culture. Everyone from Puffy to Chuck D talks about this being the moment.

It's a great story that encapsulates and important point in hip-hop's evolution. The film could show the transition the sequin era of rhyming over disco breaks, to the more aggressive, street style of the mid '80s, onto the influx of the political/gangsta era that pushed Run-DMC out. You've also got Russell and the rise of RUSH/Def Jam on the periphery.

I would actually include the fall off, and D's voice/Jay's murder. The latter, especially represents one of the ongoing problems with hip-hop world the group helped solidify. End with the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame induction. In the hands of the right writer/director, it could be epic.

I think that it would make for a better movie to include everything. And I'd like to get an inside depiction of Run and DMC's relationship throughout the years leading up to Jay's death and then afterwards as well.
DMC's voice, Run's struggle to stay relevant years after the group was pretty much a wrap...etc

RUN DMC was all raw. I don't see a need for a movie about them to be wrapped up into a pretty little pig tail ending.
