"Meek finally fires back..."

https://soundcloud.com/djfunkflexapp/meek-mill-feat-quentin-miller-wanna-know-prod-by-jahlil-beats-swizz-beatz

I know, it's kind of anticlimactic by now, but, he came with more substance by adding another Q. Miller reference track to the song.

Personally, I think both of the diss tracks that I've heard, Drake's first one and this one, have been somewhat lackluster and this whole rapping over New Age backdrops with no beats has got to stop. They surely aren't any where near an Ether, Hit Em Up or Takeover, but at the VERY end of this Meek joint, another beat drops and he sounds like he's FINALLY about to be the one to go in over some heat and.....

It ends.

Wackest diss battle I've heard in a grip.

But, this whole thing where Drake supposedly won because he replied first is heresy. It's not who replies first, it's who drops the most scathing bars, with neither of the two doing that. It's like watching the Mayweather and De La Hoya fight. It's just sparring, no real action.

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

at least, you know, rappers are actually MAKING DISS SONGS. For the last decade rap beefs have been exclusive to social media. So, while these aren't on the Ether/Takeover/Bitch In Yoo level like you said, Drake and Meek at least deserve some credit for actually bringing it to the art rather than just doing the Twitter beef bullshit that's been so prevalent.

And most of the time everyone is busy pretending to be friends so they can get a feature when needed. Seems like Drake and Meek were both on that frenemy tip for quite some time.

Also, can't believe I forgot Bitch In Yoo. Let's add No Vaseline and Dollaz + Sense while we're at it.

So many great lines. Love the beat choice. Cube was so hype.

And I love how it opens. After the intro (which is also really well done), Cube just jumps right in "God DAMN I'm glad y'all set it off...."

So fucking good.

This is maybe for another post, but not only does/did Cube have a FANTASTIC rap voice, he also has a history of dropping some of the greatest first lines in rap history IMO. In his early years, he was always so hype jumping into a track and the lines were always really good. "I heard payback's a mothafuckin' n*gga" immediately comes to mind. The above-mentioned No Vaseline opening line of course. So many others.

You just named the two biggest songs in the last important rap battle, naturally. I always just personally add Bitch In Yoo to any "best diss songs" list because it happens to be my personal favorite diss song ever.

But yea - No Vaseline and Dollaz & Sense always deserve mention, as well. There's a whole other post about these. Haha.

What was great about it was that he didn't really deviate from his nature to make the song. Like, he wasn't all of a sudden talking about clapping guns and violence (though there were a few lines about smacking Cube and a hoe, haha). He just stuck to what he was good at: strong lyricism. He spent the song just attacking Cube's career choices and laid the misinterpreted reason for the beef (the H.E.R. line about west coast rap) out there right away. It was frank and pointed but not overdone. It's really an exceptional diss song and Cube had no comeback to it.

No. Because honorable mentions exist and are just that, honorable mentions. No award given.

>or putting a kid's C+ on the refrigerator. It may
>be good enough for them but.....nah.

No. Because like I said, I'm not commending them for the content of the songs. I'm commending them for actually staying true to the art rather than just doing the 50 Cent Twitter/YouTube bullshit. That deserves credit (in the context of the current landscape of rap beef) whether you like it (or them, or the songs) or not.

In response to Reply # 0

It's starting to reek of some industry politics coming into play. All across my usual hip hop news sites, everyone is referring to Drake's response as calculated. Even Joe Buddens is saying the same thing. It's like a script was handed out. It seems like everyone and they Momma who could use that Drake feature or interview someday is praising his two lackluster diss tracks.

What's so cot damn calculated about randomly dropping two diss tracks and sending some champagne to a radio personality?!

All I'll say is, Meek made an assertion and has continued to follow it up with facts and proof while Drake has yet to address the claim that was levied. He just fired back without denying our admitting. Cats can try to doctor this narrative as much as they would like, but facts and proof trumps conjecture and character attacks all day.

I'm not impressed by either of the two but how can we be calling the victor at halftime?

It's def calculated fam. All the way down to the artwork. I'm not impressed by the actual songs but he is making Meek play himself. I think him being the aggressor kinda caught Meek by surprise. He probably thought Drake was gonna do twitter wars with him. He didn't want battle records because he's not clever enough to win that war IMO.

Seriously, are you saying Meek don't want it with Drake in a battle? Seriously?!. Have you really listened to both of these cats catalogs or are you just a Drake fan only?

Have you heard Meek's Tony Story 2? His verse on MMG The World Is Ours?. All of the song Dreams and Nightmares?

If you have, you can't be serious about Drake bodying Meek in a battle.

Can't really call myself a fan of either. I just think Drake is a better rapper than Meek. The only angle Meek has is that he's street. That may have mattered in the 90s but these young fans don't care about that.

>i can see why you can't understand how Drake already won.

Really?. That's what you took away from all that I had to say? What I'm simply conveying is that, in my opinion, Meek is a fiercer rapper. Drake is the better artist.

Do I own any a meek albums? No.

Do I own any Drake albums? Yup. His first the three.

A Stan would put his money where his mouth is.

I'm just calling the match as I see it and calling out folks who want to act like Meek is not a worthy competitor.

If that's stanning, then, so be it.

I'm guessing if I said Drake won, I'd be of sound body and mind?

He came screaming just like people said he would, he was almost Young Thug levels of incoherent.

His punchlines were weaker but he dragged out lots of embarrassing situations for Drake, I say they even right now.

It's funny because both of these dudes come from kind of phony camps, people respect Birdman and Rick Ross' hustle I guess, but both of their "leaders" are constantly clowned too.

Meek was doing good with his tear jerker interviews until he got on twitter, Drake should go battle Murda Mook and try to win as a distraction lol

but technically, Meek is at a disadvantage because his album just dropped and Drake has one coming still, so if he actually makes a harder diss track he could shut it down, Meek on tour and trying to promote his stuff.

this ish is hilarious really, no bullets please.

It is not about who won the corny diss-off.

Drake has no claim to the throne now. Well, he never **really** did of course, but this can't even be argued by his fans anymore.

Like, its not even a discussion now.

He is now in the category of rappers who don't write their rhymes.

I know, I know - bbbbbut Dre! Kanye!! Latifah!!

Okay, but those folks were never a contender for the throne. Ever. Never pretended to be.

And in the case of Ye and Dre, have other things on their resume.

These corny diss tracks aside, this whole situation confirmed what may of us have BEEN saying =

Drake is a pop star. Nothing more nothing less. I'm not saying he isn't talented or whatever...or you have to hate his music (though I will never understand how folks older than say 20 enjoy his shallow sh!t)...

but that's it. Pop star. Case closed.

*** The other thing is, you don't get stripes for beating Meek Mill. There's some dudes on here who could probably cook him. He probably should have taken a page out of Jay's post-Blueprint book and just ignored it.

The sh!t hip hop will tolerate (borderline celebrate) these days is mind blowing. Biting. Persona stealing. Ghost-writing. Corny diss tracks. Instagram beef. Twitter beef. Unreal...

Hip-hop tolerating "X-is coming" from DMX's first album was "unreal" to me.

Jaw-dropping unreal.
