"Is Kendrick Lamar sexist?"

http://www.drobaricartman.com/#!Kendricks-Complicated-Relationship-With-Women/ca8d/

Excerpt from blog:

"The moment that made me cringe was when Kendrick serenaded us with the chorus from his A$ap Rocky collab: “I love bad bitches that’s my fucking problem. And yeah I like to fuck, I got a fucking problem”. I don’t think that was metaphor. I found that song to be a disgusting set list choice, at the Essence Festival, a space intended to celebrate and empower black women. I have ‘complicated relationship’ in the title because while Kendrick was performing this song he was enthusiastically joined by hundreds of women. No one boo’d. Just because I found it off-putting doesn’t mean I get to decide what a women finds acceptable, entertaining, desirable, or offensive. Which always brings us to the classic conundrum, the clash between understanding that people are not a monolith and the desire to have some common understanding about what we deem toxic."

Because Kendrick is already hailed as a Top level rapper, he's a target, although he's much "less" sexist than 98% of the rappers out there. Along with that, most of his material isn't sexist at all....BUT, his sexist songs are the ones that the bitches (I'm being extremely sarcastic) love the most! It's girls who LOVE songs like "Fuckin problems" and anything else that refers to "bad bitches" because it gets them "turnt up" as they say, but will dislike the tracks that are positive/uplifting, ESPECIALLY in a club/concert setting.

Besides, that's not even him on the chorus, and it's not his song...he's a guest artist on it.

which isn't necessarily unfair because his music and how he wants to bring people together, he's opening himself up to that criticism... But at the same time, it's not his song, but it's one of his most popular verses... People (including women) want to hear him perform that verse... Also, most women like fucking... Women not being allowed to be as outspoken about sex (and sexual conquest) like men are is a problem with our society... If this woman is just upset about the song calling females bitches, I can kinda understand... But at the same time.....not getting into that one... That's a whole different debate...

and yes, if the crowd was a mix of older people & children then yeah, that song is inappropriate, but only in that setting, like in front of the little boy you mentioned him having a conversation with.

Men and women are going to speak about sex in different ways, but it seems awfully strange that what's empowering for a female artist is labeled sexism when a male does it.

You criticized his use of the word "dick" and how you wanted to explain the metaphor of "backseat freestyle" to the older people, one of the women you provided a link to made her whole case for his apparent sexism off of the "for free" interlude, and they both complained about the lack of women on the TPAB cover and that because he didn't speak of women in a 100% flattering way that the man is sexist. Even saw that old tired "hyper masculinity" catchphrase.

It's funny how feminist want a male artist to speak for them, but will totally ignore a deeply personal piece of work like TPAB knowing they would criticize anyway he spoke of women just because he's a male. It's almost like they can't accept the fact there really are negative women in this world.

This is one of the most positive artists we have and both of those womens complaints can be boiled down to "he didn't talk about women enough", like, just fuck his perspective right?

Yes, he could have done another song, but to act like he never made "no make-up" "poetic justice" or even a "cloud 10" is just wrong, especially when the criticism is of a song that's about having sex to begin with.

and since im already in Stan territory for K.Dot lol, how can we call a dude who for as far as we know is currently engaged to the same woman he's been with since high school?

No stories of him banging out groupies or actually disrespecting women in real life, but a couple of feminists feel like they weren't mentioned enough so now he's sexist? nah.

i get your points too. i think we get off track when we try to say a person is or isn't something in totality, instead of seeing us all as nuanced beings who may display characteristics of something from one moment to the next. and i think men have to do better to call out each other when do inappropriate stuff regarding women

feminists front like they want support from men in general ( he for she ) but they can't accept the male point of view, TPAB is a deep album and he said a lot of personal things about himself, but he's sexist for not mentioning women as much as a feminist woman says he should. Let a male music critic or writer say that about a female artist and his career would be over lol

There are feminist out there who genuinely don't care about the male perspective, they want everybody to speak for and from the female side of things and that's not possible, you can back somebodies ideology until the cows come home but you can never truly walk in their shoes, and when they take an album like TPAB and rip it apart because it's not the album they want it to be for them, they're taking those shoes and tossing em in the trash.

It's not about men calling each other out, these misandrist females have that on lock, it's about actually knowing what equality is and not scapegoating one group for what they'll turn around and praise the other for doing.

When it comes to domestic violence ( joe budden ), making Cosby rape memes ( pete rock ) and those types of things, yeah, dudes should speak up and check each other, but keep in mind that there are feminist who think chivalry is sexism too.

I think the hypocrisy has to go before dudes really feel comfortable giving their point of view.

He dis make a song called, 'Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe' and then rapped a four minute ode to sexing up a woman and her 'lady love' in 'These Walls'.

But then again, most men have that seed of sexism within us. If that weren't the case, the world would be a much different place.

All things considered, his on-record relationship with women is evolving. He did go from 'Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe' to 'Complexion' within one album. And he does seem a man who respects his mother and his fiancé.

But to not recognize the misogyny, even as tame as compared to most rappers, would be not holding him up to the standard his music deserves.

I went to check the lyrics just to be sure and it is never gendered in that way. Bitch is a universal term that happens to be derogatory both ways; yea, it can be feminized (as in, man quit acting like a bitch aka female) but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Whoever he is addressing is just a bitch, most likely because it sounds good on the beat.

(the radio edit to "trick" - which is an odd radio edit in and of itself - complicates things, I suppose.)

but i don't want nobody making a top tier rapper like him as a poster child for alot of the lames that are putting out hot garbage. kendrick is the truth.
