b/c mainstream HH has largely abandoned Funk. like that Trap shit - is maybe remotely funky at best. in general funky HH feels 'old school' now.

Agreed. It's almost like history repeating itself (from funk to disco, from classic hip hop to trap).

Which is interesting, because with the current economical and social environment you'd think there'd be a movement of rawer music, maybe even protest music. Kinda like what D'Angelo is doing with Black Messiah. But other than him who's really taking a stand (and keeping it funky)?
