"I Serve The Base" is a headnod, but by the time "Stick Talk" comes on, the feel of the album has become pretty repetitive. Every song has the same dark bounce feel. It's not that they're bad songs if you're into the sound, but some variation would be nice. However, I understand that this feeling is exactly the lean rap atmosphere he's going for, so he hits his mark. I'm probably just too sober and far from depression to rock with it the way some might. I do, however, feel like listening to it more would help bring me closer to depression. The beats are pretty high-quality with the exception of "Colossal", which is slightly reminiscent of "No More Play In GA" with more piano keys. Aside from that, many of the beats here have a mystic atmospheric mood. Take "Blood On The Money" for instance, which sounds like Ferrari pulling up on a foggy night, under a blood-red moon. "Rotation" has the feel of a Tomb Raider level. I was surprised at the beat for "Kno The Meaning" which sounds like a Goodie Mob or Outkast album track... definitely sounds like it could have been on ATLiens somewhere near "Mainstream". "The Percocet & Stripper Joint" has a beat that almost makes you expect something reflective and meaning... then you remember the name of the song. There are lines like "Treasure brings misery, Codeine in my delivery", whatever that's worth.
Overall, if you're into the sound, you're really gonna like this album and likely give it at LEAST an 8.5 or outta 10. Personally, I don't feel like it would be right for me to score it, because it's just not my type of hype. There are, however, 2 or 3 songs I'lll keep in the rotation, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
