"Mark de Clive-Lowe: Herbie Hancock Tribute mix"

some of you will dig this i'm sure. i was asked to spin a herbie tribute here in LA a few weeks ago. considering he is one of my number one inspirations, i wanted to do something special, so performed a 90 min set looping, sampling and flipping some of my favorite herbie moments. additional beats/manipulation/keys all performed live on the fly. it was a super fun way to share 40+ years of the man's music.

nothing quite as dope as seeing girls getting down dancing to the bass line intro to 'Riot' !

enjoy...

When you say, you "own the headhunters" albums...does that mean you already have Thrust and Head Hunters?

If so...

Man Child (1975)
Secrets (1976)
Sunlight (1978)

...are all great. Especially Sunlight.
It's worth it just for "I Thought It Was You".

In response to Reply # 12

if you've already got Head Hunters and Thrust

then check out: Flood (live album), Secrets, Man-Child, Sunlight, Mr. Hands

if you're still into it, check out his R&B experiments: Feets Don't Fail Me Now, Monster, Lite Me Up (more or less a Hancock take on "Thriller" type music)

he's very much an artist who has "phases". He moves out of acoustic and electric music without missing a beat. He's had an avant-garde phase that's highly rated by critics. His Blue Note catalog is pretty much immaculate. His '80s work (largely characterized by "Rockit") is interesting, if only in the context of how long he was into his career and what he was doing -- though I think he feels more like a sideman on a lot of those songs, making "Eddie Murphy Movie" music

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.
