Never got the whole "culture vulture" vibe from dude.
He's been very consistent in being a soul artist. Not just flopping around doing this and
that until he found a lane with Black music. Yeah his first album was really diverse, but
that's about it.
Also, he didn't take the commercial route and try to become the face of R&B or anything.
He had the one bullshit track with Minaj, but went right back to doing him, lol.
He's also definitely not hiding the fact that his influences are Black artists.
On "Love After War", for instance, he's imitating Michael Jackson down to the vocal ticks
like he wrote the song FOR Mike or something. Even threw in some PYT-esqe "Ahh Baby"
at the end.
I've heard influences, sure (I Got To Be Down ft. Faith Evans), but not anymore than
any other artist (Neyo - What Have I Done, Timberlake - Rock Your Body, Chris Brown - Fine China)...
guess that's just musical reparations lol, I dunno.
I never had a problem with him tho.

And yes, he has a ton of really good songs.

are you kidding me? that jive milky head turkey still
ain't made a legit song that anybody knows.

White Privldge with average results.

he got the White Pimp Slap hand by the industry because he got a little wild after blurred lines blew him up
and that last album went "glad bag"
and he is a marginal talent at best. like a good lounge act.

turkey is a culture bandit period.

he should be studying Neil Diamond's playbook and stop coming off
like a dried up cornball.

lost without you was decent. but as long as this turkey been around
and he still can't carry Bobby Caldwell's AARP Card or Boz Scaggs smokers jacket.

if THicke didn't have his pops last name and White Privledge than that turkey would be washing dishes at the surf lounge with Dino.

THicke been wack and gonna stay wack. he just playing ball the way the powers that be want
and he grinning wiht FLo Rida now.

no reason why the Gaye's shouldn't sue him again.

This sounds as much like Mercy, Mercy, Me as Blurred Lines did Got To Give It Up.

NYTimes interview:
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/05/arts/music/robin-thicke-on-blurred-lines-and-learning-from-his-mistakes.html?ref=arts

Not a bad interview, but it feels sort of canned. And I know that he has to really persist on the inspiration vs stealing argument (which I mostly appreciate), but seriously, "Love After War" is *much* more than inspiration. I figured that would have at least gotten an interpolation credit in the liners -- you can practically play portions of the two on top of each other, lol. Nevertheless, glad he's appealing the Blurred Lines verdict.

But the idea of him being at his lowest point when he was supposedly at his highest (in terms of publicity) is spot on --- as a fan, I felt really bad for his "success" that clearly obscured the much better work he'd done prior and turned him into something that just wasn't very likable. I like this track - I'll check for the new album.

(Still haven't listened to all of Paula, though, and probably won't any time soon.)
