EDIT: Oops, I thought this was the 3-5 albums you've checked out and enjoyed post.

Un Blonde - Water the next day

https://unblonde.bandcamp.com/album/water-the-next-day

Sounds like 90s RnB put in the microwave. If that sounds like a good thing to you, might enjoy.

http://cauzndefx.bandcamp.com/album/hi-five-lo-five

Really love some of the production choices, and the rapper has an enjoyable flow on this to me. (I don't know if he's just rapping over beats he got from around the web, but the mix is quality enough that it doesn't sound like it.)

Jon Bap - Let It Happen EP

http://jonbap.bandcamp.com/album/let-it-happen-ep

A throwback RnB album of loose crooning filtered through a beat tape type production.

----
I check for: Serengeti, Zeroh, Open Mike Eagle, Jeremiah Jae, Moka Only.

also a few thoughts:

Based these mostly off of my Spotify checked playlist from the past five months

I listened to Bjork in a car in January on the way back from funeral and it didn't really hit. Figured if it didn't work in that context, it wasn't for me (I haven't listened to her too too much, but I have listened to and dug some of her old stuff, specifically Post)

Gotta give Sufjan and Death Grips an honest listen

Those Dawn Richards and Flako albums were seriously overlooked.

I really really gave Hiatus a try, and while I respect the musicianship and the scope of what they're doing, the sound isn't really for me

I should listen to Lupe more

Bush > Tuxedo for those keeping track. I felt like that Tuxedo album ended up being kind of underrated after it may have felt initially underwhelming from the (justified) hype. It's a fun listen

Should I listen to Oddisee

That ASAP album was hot garbage although I am sheepishly bumping LSD

Just listened to the Donnie Trumpet album for the first time today. Will keep listening but that Towkio may be better (And I loved Acid Rap)

Rae Sremmurd, Fan of a Fan and Big Sean were really enjoyable for what they were. This is the part where I go guiltily listen to Starlito and Kevin Gates and Boosie (couldn't get into the first, a little sick of the second and haven't listened to the third)

I like Thug but I didn't really dig Barter 6. Still looking forward to Metro Thuggin from what I've heard (Free Gucci, Warrior)

The Glasper streamrip has been out for almost a week now after it dropped on iTunes. I preordered the Leon Bridges and almost half the album has been available for a little bit. Either way, I'm loving both albums, especially the Glasper.

Always find some good albums in here.

Been going through older catalogs this year and haven't listened to much new music. Here's the new music that has been in my rotation though:

Kamasi Washington - The Epic
Kendrick - TPAB
Panda Bear - Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper
Tut - Preacher's Son
Pond - Man It Feels Like Space Again
Earl Sweatshirt - IDLSIDGO
Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment - Surf

A lot of those are dense albums that get better with repeated listenings. The Tut mixtape was heavily slept on, check that one out.

my bad.

+ Hiatus Kaiyote "Choose Your Weapon"
+ Kendrick Lamar "To Pimp A Butterfly"
+ Nicolay "City LIghts 3: Soweto
+ Dego & Kaidi "EP2"

All of these were excellent releases. Like, I've been constantly going back to these joints since they dropped. And I'm keeping my list short cause I don't want to just list everything I bought (which was a lot this year).

HM:

+ Snoop Dogg "BUSH"
+ Tuxedo "Tuxedo"
+ Dam-Funk "STFU"

The rest are either just too new for me to comment (Dornik) or I haven't given it the proper listen (Kamasi Washington, Oddisee, Vince Staples).

Pond - Man It Feels like Space Again
Lapalux - Lustmore
Joey Badass - Before Da Money
Kamasi Washington - The Epic
Tame Impala - Currents
Portico - Living Fields
High Risk - Dave Douglas and Shigeto
Jaga Jazzist - Starfire
Thundercat - Where the Giants Roam

this is my top 10 as of now.
Things can change obviously as the year is fluid,
new music constantly being released.

Need to hear:
FKA TWIGS - Melissa
Alchemist - Israeli Salad

Still to come:
Chvrches -
Gangrene - You Disgust Me
Joe Budden - All Love Lost

Things closest to getting bumped (8-10):
Joey Badass - Before Da Money
Tame Impala - Currents
Jaga Jazzist - Starfire

edit: forgot about Joey Badass debut which I like more than Vince
so Vince gets bumped out top 10.

Mainly Carla Morrison, which is my AotY at this point (Discogs has not added it yet, so I can't officially add it to my list until that happens). Grimes is now there and I've just got a good feeling about Maxwell and James Blake.

It's really turning into a photo finish here in the last few weeks of the year.

Shit goes hard. This year beats last year's arse by a country mile. And the year's not out yet. Here's to hoping somebody does a surprise release (Burial, Maxwell, James Blake — I'm talking to ya'll).
