And even if you don't like it, which I would understand, you have to respect the artistry. They created full, lush, beautiful soundscapes on this album. The verses are in a lot of ways the weakest part. That being said, there are dope verses too. Not bars, but dope verses.
Too bad okp is sleep.

And I think you're underselling the verses heavily -- reading along with these as I listen, every verse from Chance feels incredibly dense. Which makes sense, he only has maybe 8 or 9 total, so I guarantee he didn't waste a word on any of them. He's too talented and too much of an artist, and he cares too much - I look forward to figuring out all that he's trying to convey on here.

The verses aren't weak. There are verses on here that I really dig. I absolutely love Chance's verse on Warm Enough. I like Noname's on there too. Big Sean has a a dope verse and so does Kyle (despite having a terrible voice imo).
But what I was trying to articulate is that with this album... the music is really the star. It's easy to hear a song like Wanna Be Cool and just hear it as being corny. Which it is (I still really like the song tho, fwiw). But then overlook what's happening musically on this album. Yeah Busta's on this album, yeah Cole's on this album, yeah Quavo and King Louie, and Badu are on this album; but it's not about them or their contributions. Not imo.
I think it's very easy for someone to come into this album and not like hearing weird voices, not many rappity verses, and corniness and not appreciate what's underneath that. Which is really the star.

It def isn't a Chance album and I can see why the guest aren't listed, because it really is like a big jam band / community album.
there is not one song that really grabs me and makes me want to return to it, and for all the talk of the musicianship idk, i mean Kamasi and Hiatus just released albums that impress me more with there musicianship, and in terms of "stretching" rap Kendrick and Lupe already did it better than Donnie and co.
it's not wack, and I don't feel like there is a bad song on here, but in the end nothing grabbed me
I appreciate these youngins doing poppy hippy art house pseudo jazz rap shit tho.

for me, if you get what I'm saying. Nothing here is flat out bad, but considering the style here, I don't know, I just feel like it could've been a lot better. Still a decent album though

the album was made for his unborn child, which seems to make a lot of sense. Interesting news, because before now I couldn't really connect the dots, other than it seeming like an album generally about growing up and the different phases in life.

Makes sense that it's a bit more specifically targeted at someone. I've still got a lot of questions though (I really like Chance, and I really like the album, so I'm a bit more curious than most) - how does something like 'Familiar' fit in? When did Chance even find out he was going to be a dad - surely some of this was written before then, i.e. Sunday Candy definitely was.
