"Is there a Top 5 emcee missing in your music collection?"
Thu May-21-15 08:49 PM by Starks dunked on Bul

I'm talking about their whole discography is nowhere in your collection. And when I say Top 5 emcee, I mean an emcee who is usually in peoples list.

For me it's Jay-Z. I don't have a single album of his in my collection. Nor am I interested in adding any of his albums. He's intolerable.

I have a gang of his singles and 'The Fix' album, but I need to invest in his discography more. He also just released a memoir I need to buy soon.

Just started digging deeper into his discography recently and it's been great. I, just like you, had The Fix for years, and had heard several of his songs here and there but never knew any of his other albums in full. Now I've heard all of them at least once, since about a few months ago. Some really, really great work he's done.

growing up, my brother and I would share tapes so he was the first to "discover" BDK so he got all the albums. I've never gone back and purchased them for myself.

I know he's great but his albums aren't great outside of the first two. He released 4 albums within a 40 month period. Dude just didn't take time crafting good albums IMO.

Heard all of the essential albums (youtube, streams, etc.), got certain songs on mixes, their influence and position in the grand scheme of MC's is undeniable...........but I don't own any albums.

I think I lied on here years ago saying I would rectify that situation so I won't do it again.

But it's not missing, it's an omission.

EDIT: The same goes for Eminem. I can only do Marshal in doses.

I can tell his style must have been influential because some of Nas' cadences are link Kool G Rap'sm but like The Beatles it's hard to get a sense of how unexpected of a style he had without fully knowing the context.
