"CZARFACE - Every Hero Needs A Villain (2015)"

Nightcrawler feat. Method Man: https://soundcloud.com/brickrecords/czarface-inspectah-deck-7l-esoteric-feat-method-man-nightcrawler

I thought the first album was excellent back when it came out (though I haven't revisited it in a while). The sequel might be even better based on the above track.

Tracklisting:
1. DON THE ARMOR
2. CZARTACUS
3. LUMBERJACK MATCH
4. NIGHTCRAWLER feat. METHOD MAN
5. WORLD PREMIER feat. LARGE PROFESSOR
6. THE GREAT (CZAR GUITAR)
7. RED ALERT
8. JUNKYARD DOGS feat. JUJU OF THE BEATNUTS
9. SGT. SLAUGHTER
10. WHEN GODS GO MAD feat. GZA
11. KA-BANG! feat. MF DOOM
12. DEADLY CLASS feat. MEYHEM LAUREN
13. ESCAPE FROM CZARKHAM ASYLUM
14. SINISTER
15. GOOD VILLAINS GO LAST feat. RA THE RUGGED MAN

70-page comic to accompany the CD as well: http://getondown.com/album.php?id=17945

Pretty entertaining, though probably went on a little too long. How they kept straight faces shooting that is beyond me.

It gets repetitive very quickly. I keep wanting to hear some type of story from it and I'm really not. The skits are on point, rhymes are nice, beats too. It does however fall to a rather common modern weakness of rap albums (even some highly regarded ones), it sounds like the same 4 or 5 dope songs played over and over.

When will rappers stop rapping about how good they are at rapping/ how bad their competitors are at rapping? Rapping about rapping is getting worse and more monotonous than gangster rap in its height. At least they were rapping about different criminal activities!

I really like the album and I hate to sound negative but it seems they used up 90% of their creativity on the concept and didn't have enough for the actual music.

And for me, it's not what you, but how you do it. And, to me, they put together an excellent and creative battle rap album. It's like their version of Meth and Red's "Blackout," another album that I loved.

Besides, it's not like either of these guys aren't adept at doing stories/concepts. So I don't personally need every album to be like that.

Just listened yesterday and I love it.

I find stone's criticism strange, too because I don't feel like it's "modern" to rap about how good you are at rapping. If anything, I think rappers in the last several years have been trying too hard to be *something else*, something other than just people who are supremely talented at putting words together over dope beats. Since the Prhyme album came out, I've kinda been all about these albums that focus solely on dope beats and dope rhymes, all social commentary and everything else be damned, and this album falls into that category. It's just a fun album with some really solid displays of production and emceeing. I appreciate it.

Perhaps I've just grown tired of rappers trying so hard to be conscious, or to be hard, or to be different, or to be .... whateverthefuck. Just spit good rhymes over good beats and I'll ride with it. Of course this is just a phase, and eventually I'll want more substance. But for now, I enjoy this album and breathe easy knowing I don't have to focus too hard to listen to it.

i happen to enjoy all stages of Hip-Hop but I can admit I have a softer spot for underground, battle-rap driven, BARS-BARS-BARS hip-hop.

But yeah...it's a good LP just for raw MC-ing fans.

Why can't rap listeners accept that "rappity-rap" done well has an audience of folks who want and just expect that?

And going back to it now after he's gotten better (IMHO), is a little tough. But I do think he's gotten better since like 2004.

So I can rock with Demigodz, some songs on Czarface, and so on, but around the 3rd song or so, I gotta bail.

I'm not a big fan and yeah, I do wish a Deck solo would be this dope but I can't say E is ruining these songs. He has some dope moments on here. I e heard far worse voices.

Not to mention, I'm pretty sure this entire concept is his.
