I'm reminded of some folks on this board diminishing Lamar following GKMC because they believed he didn't have the star power or massive iHeart anthems to match 'Ye, Drake, ect....They thought he caught lightening in a bottle going platinum....

Which now seems laughable.....

This dude basically has popular music on a string right now....Lamar is doing whatever he wants to do. His hardcore fans can't scream sellout cuz he just dropped one of the boldest mainstream hip hop albums in over a decade....

And he has enough separation from the pop crowd to be viewed as an anomaly; an artist who does what the fuck he wants to do: Lamar drops a remix with the biggest pop star on the planet just days after releasing new music with an alternative soul act (Bilal)....

To me Lamar has the unpredictable spirit of '80s Prince....It's hard to pin him down...That's his true strength IMO....

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

but that's how I feel about his work. I think the more he started to veer from what was "expected", the better an artist he got.

and now everyone wants a piece of the action. Including, apparently... Taylor Swift.

I kind of agree with BrooklynWHAT, this song ain't really what I want to hear Kendrick rapping over. it's almost funny to hear him on this, really. On some "look at this! I'm with a cool rapper guy" thing. Wonder if anyone that isn't familiar checks out Kendrick after this and gets Harvey Eyes the first time they hear "blue eyed devil with a fat ass monkey"

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

And he can really hop on ANY type of track, just like Ludacris was doing last decade. I've heard him on EDM, this Pop-Trap, King Kunta, Mustard beats, Premier and Dilla type beats, basically any damn thing he wants to do.

And of course y'all will all say "Drake killed him" but his screw-voice intro alone starts the song off dope as hell. And the hook is on point.

But "King Kunta" sounds NOTHING like anything radio or club, yet he made it a hit. That's beyond "making singles" when most artists just get a Mustardized beat and call it a day.

Song bumps tho...doenst feel like her tho. But i wouldnt be surprised when this does well this summer

All those people who defend him the most or say hes the best whatever whatever will be cringing that they will be backing this song LOL....its good tho. Its a good top line record. It just doesn't feel like either of them. And after the type of album he dropped its kinda laughable but its good. I fuck with it.

but ok

After dropping the type of album he did doing a song that doesnt really fit him (even if it was done well, mind you it doesnt even sound like Taylor Swift even with her new direction) is funny. How isn't it?.

I don't care if someone like him or anyone for that matter does BIG songs....as long as its good, and it still feels like them on it. Doing collabos like that is an art in itself. Do i think it was done successfully on this collabo? No not really, even if i think its a good TOP LINE song.

i mean the other Cat who is a influence on Kendrick to do this and that and make it happen.

now I dig Kendrick, however lets get carried away he is coming along during a time when if you hit big on the charts than jumping on a track with taylor swift ain't even a thing.

this is getting way too much juice. this ain't like Ice Cube jumping on a Madonna remix back in the day or something.

all big time female artists today have fill in the blank big MC of the moment on a remix or a feature no big deal,

kendrick is todays pop music who happens to be a rapper. however donn't get it twisted it was cat named Teddy Riley who broke that wall as we know it.

and Snoop been did what Kendrick is doing with a heavier rep going i might add back in the day. blueprint been formed.

Nas done this as well. no biggie.

mistermaxxx R.Kelly, Michael Jackson,Stevie wonder,Rick James,Marvin Gaye,El Debarge, Barry WHite Lionel RIchie,Isleys EWF,Lady T.,Kid creole and coconuts,the crusaders,kc sunshine band,bee gees,jW,sd,NE,JB

than working with the whitest artist alive.. i think between her rapping k.dot's lyrics when she sold 1M in her first week (or whatever the occasion was) and him freestyling to one of her songs on that radio show almost made a collaboration inevitable.. and it's pretty neat that it happened and that they can share audiences...

but the prism of race IS slavery in and of itself.. making decisions based on race is a slave mentality, regardless of your race.. mainly because it's being bound by an illusion.. imo, love for one thing shouldn't have anything to do with being anti- something else..

but oh well.. can only hope people wake up a little

Because I never said he's wrong for collaborating with
a white artist.

So learn how to read and interpret, so as to not embarrass
the black race.

Sincerely,

Nah....u overplaying your hand on this one....

Swift, the biggest pop star on the planet, filmed herself rapping a deep album cut from Kendrick Lamar's GKMC (the same album u claimed was successful because of hipsters...). Swift then told anyone who would listen that Lamar was her favorite rapper....Lamar returned the favor and spit a freestyle over Swift's "Shake it Off..."

Now the inevitable happened....They did a song together...

Now if u think the song sucks, I can dig it...If u think the pairing does nothing for either artist, that's cool....That's an entirely different point...

But let's not go overboard with the whole sellout stuff...In 2015 pop and hip-hop are on some kissing cousins shit...It is what it is....

a) What "sociopolitical climate" of the 90s? The one where
violence in the inner city started declining and the economy
improved dramatically?

Lulz @ the Lamargency, not a well read group

his album just poo-pooed over all the negative criticism launched in here by his detractors, he can make a guest appearance on a wack song if he so wishes. long as his own work isn't affected.

I'm not defending this song: it has no redeeming qualities (to my ears). Someone out there will like it. Not me.

and I think it'll be funny to see the faces of anyone who isn't familiar that liked Kendrick on this song, after they hear "King Kunta" and that "FAT VAGINA" line, LMAO. Hell, I would pay money to see Taylor Swift's face after she first heard that lyric.

This is the wackness that many in the same position have done to much a pass: shit, M.O.P. did a song with LFO (which was hilarious as fuck... I still want to know how the fuck that went down). That doesn't tarnish them in my eyes. They still made "Ante Up" and "Salute". And "Rude Bastard" *grin at screen*

I wish Kendrick had better quality control w/this sort of thing, but eh. He made To Pimp A Butterfly. And "Bitch, Dant Kill My Vibe". It's a promotional tool at best. not a "canonized" work at all. Something we'll all talk about for like 2 minutes UNLESS he starts making a whole album like this.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

Funny comparison. I can't think it's a alright pop song. And no I don't think El-P is the king of hip hop like a good amount of message boards.

Like who you like. I not feelin El-P style flow wise and his production is alright but not revolution like most message board posters and hipsters say. Back to Taylor Swift she makes pop music, the song with Kdot is good in it's field (pop music: Katy Perry,Rihanna, Beyoncé) Is it something I listen to no but it's not awful like y'all prudes are saying.

which I, too, believe he retains without it being some sort of contradiction.

I think most ppl here agree that the song sucks. Even those who share the aforementioned sentiment.
