"SUPREME CLIENTELE: standard vs. og canadian version"
let's settle this debate...
which one is better?
do we really need all those "ironman" cartoon skits?
is "in the rain"/"wise" > "the grain"?
is the more "boomy" mix of "might healthy" better than the standard "thin" mix?
does sticking "impossible" right after "Saturday night" work?
is "Woodrow the basehead" better with the music?
is the "mahogany"/"bastards" version of "ghostdeini" THAT much better than the standard "keyboard" version?
is "child's play" better as a straight loop? or do those beat changes and added drums make it better?
do we need ghost's closing verse on "wu-banga 101"? or are we done after masta killa's verse?
for those who don't know, there were two versions of "supreme clientele" released commercially. the standard version is the one we all know and love. but for whatever reason, Canada received an alternative 14-track version of the album. in fact, the original US booklets reflected this Canadian version (with "in the rain" listed in the credits).
here's the Canadian tracklisting:
1 Nutmeg 2 One 3 Saturday Nite/Impossible/Iron's Theme (Intermission) 4 In The Rain (Wise) 5 Mighty Healthy 6 Apollo Kids/Clyde Smith (Skit) 7 Buck 50/Stroke Of Death/Woodrow The Base Head (Skit) 8 Stay True 9 Ghost Deini (G-Dini) 10 Malcolm 11 We Made It/Who Would You Fuck? (Skit) 12 Child's Play 13 Cherchez LaGhost 14 Wu Banga 101/Iron's Theme (Conclusion)

but looking at the tracklist, I'd stick with the 'standard' version I grew up with. Also, those Iron Man skits set the mood, wouldn't feel right without them.
makes me think that the canadian tracklist was completed before the official release--somewhere in between the pressings, either rza or ghost found them and thought they'd be perfect for the album.

I'll stick with the US version. If I remember correctly the Canadian version had several songs jammed together as one track. I hate that unless it's a bonus track at the very end of the album. The track listing was jacked up on Bulletproof Wallets too. Ghost had it the worst when it came to sample clearances and track listings.

>do we really need all those "ironman" cartoon skits?
Probably not.
>is "in the rain"/"wise" > "the grain"?
No. "The Grain" is better.
>is the more "boomy" mix of "might healthy" better than the >standard "thin" mix?
No opinion.
>does sticking "impossible" right after "Saturday night" work?
Doesn't add anything to it.
>is "Woodrow the basehead" better with the music?
Yes.
>is the "mahogany"/"bastards" version of "ghostdeini" THAT much >better than the standard "keyboard" version?
Never got what the big deal was about the o.g. version. I preferred the second version. Though I acknowledge that may be because I heard the second version first.
>is "child's play" better as a straight loop? or do those beat >changes and added drums make it better?
Like the beat changes.
>do we need ghost's closing verse on "wu-banga 101"? or are we >done after masta killa's verse?
Yes, that Ghost verse is essential.
So yeah, going with the U.S. version. Better versions of songs and better sequenced.

the canadian version does seem more "mixtape-y," esp with the inclusion of "in the rain" and "impossible." the standard version is definitely a fleshed-out ALBUM.
but man, I love the "mahogany" version of "ghost deini". I saw ghost perform that one live here in sacramento and I totally lost it!

when my cd got scratched up I went to buy another one and I didn't look at the tracklisting or anything. The intro was gone and went right into Nutmeg. I thought there was like a sampling/licensing issue and that's what was up. I never listened to the whole thing, I was disappointed I didn't have what I thought I was getting. I had been telling people there are two versions because of that issue, turns out I was wrong and the other is the CAN version. Glad to know that now many, many, years later lol.

I got about three boxes packed with cds and about 5 spindles where I put cds with no cases or didn't feel like putting them back because I played them a lot. I got a weekend project ahead of me now. Wife may not like the mess I'm about to make.

Pathmark on Forest Ave, Staten Island also received the Canadian version. I got it unbeknownst there was a different version until i saw Rza got the quotable for The Grain which wasn't on my copy.

on Park Row in Manhattan. Not J&R, there was another smaller record shop across the street next to Optimo cigars. They were selling it a few days before the release date, that just happened to be the version they had. I didn't know there was another version until Rza got the quotable either.
Having heard both, I like the Canadian version better. I like "In The Rain" more than "The Grain", & I love "Ghost Deini" with the "Bastards" beat. Those Tony Starks skits don't really do all that much for me, I would prefer to have the full "Wu-Banga 101" though.

>the only release of the OG bulletproof wallets--with "the >sun" "the watch" and OG "flowers"--was via a clean/radio-edit >2LP promo.
Yep, I remember the week the album dropped 15 posted on here saying he had just found a stash of the 2 LP version. He was even taking orders, asking people if they wanted a copy. Would love to hear this sequence, all I ever found was the 4 track vinyl EP with The Watch, The Sun, Flowers (original mix) and Good Times (all clean). And if anyone can find Quest's review of BPW that was posted in the old reviews section, that would be tight.
