Digital Underground, Sex Packets: Hip-Hop Doll, Tribute to the Old School, Sound of the Underground, extended version of Gutfest '89. Thank God for the "Cocaine Blunts and Hip-Hop Tapes" mp3 blog (remember when those were a thing?) for posting up the mp3 back in the mid '00s.
LL Cool J, Walking With a Panther: Crime Stories.
Lord Finesse, Return of the Funky Man: Hands in the Air, Mouth Shut. Great closing track not on the CD. Replaced by "Fuck 'Em." Which was CD only.
Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Mecca and the Soul Brother: Creator remix, title track edit.
I remember I bought my first CDs in 1991: Redhead Kingpin's and Craig G's second albums. My younger brother had bought a CD before that, but I decided I was stick with tapes, mostly because CD Discmen and CD players for the car sucked at the time. I pretty much held on to buying until the summer of '98, with the convergence of three events: 1) Getting a new car, and putting a 10 CD changer in the back, 2) Getting a job at Border's, which I could buy CDs on discount, 3) Going away to grad school in the Chicago area, and realizing none of the record stores in Evanston sold tapes.
I still made made mixtapes until late 2003, which is when I bought my first iPod. -----------------
