I was doing the exact same thing. "It was on the 'KRS-One' album! Return of the Boom-Bap was the first KRS album without BDP! I Got Next didn't drop for another two years!"
This is behavior I usually reserve for a Juan Epstien podcast ep.

"Next Level" is a great, great track. Great
But the music selection stuff was mostly their "Usual Suspects" shit. What was it like working with Big L? Why didn't you work with Biggie? Or Jay-Z?

and there's things you can play for laughs. It's good that he's there though in general, because Combat doesn't know when to let people talk so any break in him cutting people off is a great thing. Pete's chime-ins actually do a great service in that regard.

Diamond is one of my all-time favorites, but even still, I'm not as familiar with his catalog as I outta be. That KRS joint was bananas.
I dug this ep in spite of the hosts. it annoyed me that they spent so much time letting songs from the 'mixtape' play out—play a snippet and let the man talk so you can squeeze in more gems. (that being said, I'm surprised they went with 'The Light' over 'The Truth' on Pharoahe's album.) still a dope listen, tho.

I know it wasn't as 'important' to the genre as Criminal Minded or By All Means Necessary or even Return of the Boom-Bap but top to bottom that shit is a clinic in emceeing with some great production assists from prime-era DJ Premier and DITC cats like Diamond and Showbiz.

Diamond is a grump in general during interviews and probably doesn't elaborate enough on these tracks. I put that on CJ though, why play the whole joints? Like someone mentioned above play a snippet, then let Diamond speak. Overall, a worthwhile look into Diamond's high points. Very much agree that many solid ass joints were left out.
Premium Pete is terrible though, I miss Dallas even with some of his nonsense. Pete brings nothing but discomfort when he speaks.
