"DUST IT OFF: Digital Underground's SEX PACKETS... 25 years later"

March 27th is the 25th anniversary of the debut album by Digital Underground called SEX PACKETS, released on that unknown Tuesday in 1990. I wrote my memories about the album in my column DUST IT OFF, have a look when you can:
http://www.thisisbooksmusic.com/2015/03/26/dust-it-off-digital-underground-sex-packets-25-years-later/

I still feel it is one of the best hip-hop albums ever made and holds up brilliantly.

on the short list for my favorite album of all time.

(which shouldn't come as a surprise, given my handle).

Still pissed that I lost my tape and when I got it on CD, Hip-Hop Doll wasn't on there. This needs to be reissued with all the songs/b-sides/etc.

RE: DUST IT OFF: Digital Underground's SEX PACKETS... 25 years later

Sons of the P. I had them back in the day when I had a nice sized cassette and cd collection. All of my vinyl is from before '90. Anyway, I plan to rock out with both of them all weekend.

I bought my cassette at Sam Goody the mall in Pleasanton.

My mind was BLOWN as soon as I pressed play on my Walkman.

Wish I still had that tape. Got the CD, but it's not the same.

Teacher at my school....mid 40's...from NYC...used dance in the Juice Crew era...

She told me Digital Underground wasn't real hip-hop...lol

She couldn't name a geto boys song, a scarface song, the west coast and south pretty much do not exist in her mind.

I spent 10 minutes tryna explain Digital Underground...the funk...parliament...

It was like talking to Box of empty boxes....

I just stopped...

dug how that album felt and its own freshness. they brought P Funk to the Mainstream and were part of it and it felt truly real.

Shock G paved that door for Dr Dre and DJ Quik,

the humor and the multi personalitys and characters.

dug the balance of the album then and now.
