Phonte is one of my favorites, but that album sounded like he was just trying to answer the solo demand and didn't really want to do it.

I took that sigh and "thank god" at the end to be in reference to that. Like he was glad it was done

Not saying it was bad, I liked it, but compared to the LB and FE albums, it didn't seem as focused

And we'll probably won't get another solo record from him again...

I don't know where he went wrong. Maybe Joe didn't really want to do it. I see the cover come up from time to time and just shake my head. Should have been a great record but instead...

CSaH was nowhere near as consistent as Sleepers, even on the verses. It was basically a Foreign Exchange album without Nicolay or singing. Pooh rhymed with a clear purpose and intensity on that album, and it's aged better than Phonte's solo already.

Dude clearly isn't on his own. Many people love the Tay album.

Most people forgot Sleepers even existed.

Pooh just isn't a very good rapper.

I get that he used to post here. I get the nostalgia factor.

He's just not that good.

VERY memorable. There are quality songs that still hit.

Charity Starts at Home is just forgettable in every way.

>Dude clearly isn't on his own. Many people love the Tay
>album.
>

This isn't about loving or liking an album. I said Sleepers was better executed and more consistent. Neither of those have anything to do with taste. Contrary to popular belief, there are aspects of music that can actually be quantified.

>Most people forgot Sleepers even existed.
>

Using your own logic, that clearly isn't the case here. Look at the post line above this one.

>Pooh just isn't a very good rapper.
>

Pooh's only crime as of late is not having as much natural talent as Phonte. The guy was born to rap, and that's why it's so disappointing that he doesn't do it.

>I get that he used to post here. I get the nostalgia factor.
>
>
>He's just not that good.

You're making an awful lot of assumptions here, and I won't dignify this with a response other than the one I'm giving you now.

"Charity Starts at Home" is really good. Especially at the start and how it wraps up. There's a two or three song stretch in the middle that feels like a Foreign Exchange album without Nicolay, but it's still an extremely strong album.

The first FE record is there with it as far as quality, but out of the other records they've both done outside of LB nothing is touching those two.

To me, Charity Starts at Home is the better album and it's not really that close. Both start strong, slack up a bit in the middle, and then end strong. But Charity starts and ends stronger, and Sleepers is really forgettable in the middle.

And lyrically, Charity completely outshines Sleepers. Murs had the best verse on Sleepers; Phonte slays all of Charity.

Again, I like Pooh and I like Sleepers, but Phonte gets the clear win here.

Pooh has continued to improve record after record.

For the debate for "Sleepers" vs. "Charity Starts at Home", it's not really even close to me. No pun intended.

I keep seeing EP, but sometimes it's referred to as an album.

Just don't want to cop the EP if an LP is coming soon with the same 7 songs on it. Rather pay once.

Great choice for Pooh to get with Apollo. His beats fit him perfectly. He isn't an amazing lyricist, but he knows how to ride soulful beats to make songs work in ways a lot of lyrical dudes can't

I never checked for his previous solo work. Any recommendations? Not even sure what's out there.

He's not as strong lyrically as Phonte, obviously...never was, but he's still nice with it and can ride a beat. And like others in here have already said, it's pretty apparent he's got a good ear. Apollo brought it production-wise on this album for sure. Really good stuff.

I still keep that in rotation.

Like you said, he's not the best lyrically, but can ride a beat. I honestly like this album more than the one Apollo did with Ras Kass.

Ras is nice lyrically, but imo, isn't great at flows and riding beats. It's like Ras has bars, but Pooh can make songs. So I'm feeling this more.

Glad to see his getting some post LB attention

Did Apollo do production work on Sleepers too? Or was it others?

Agree re: Ras Kass. I love him for his bars but he definitely doesn't have the right *feel* on a lot of beats which, to me, is equally as important. Like you said, even without top notch bars, if you can ride a beat like Pooh, you're making better overall songs which I always prefer.

Nicolay has a beat on there too I think.

No Apollo Brown on that one, but it sounds like vintage Little Brother beats if you were into them initially.

Pretty good episode, and not much talk about LB or the usual stuff people ask him about.
