...I have to agree with you; this doesn't sound informed by late 60's freewheeling, "anything can happen"-psych and is indeed more "modern indie" (tm); the type of music where you see one or two guys playing guitars but you don't actually "hear" any guitars. Sure, you might recognize the texture of guitars but as a foundational building block providing riffs or at least giving the progressions some extra "oomph" and "edge"? Forget about it, it's "texture-rock" which this band always was to a certain extent but I always previously felt that the texture was a bonus, here it's just a big, wet nothing, like a really dull and filler New Order album track from the 80's...
After this, I need to cleanse myself by playing Motörhead's "Overkill"-album in its entirety...
Anyway, if wet, mushy 80's synth-pop is where this band wants to go, I'll ignore them from here on out...

but as far as I can tell this is pretty much who theyve always been any/every time I've tried to dig in, only now they might have devolved into self-parody from that.
There is absolutely no personality, balls, or song craft, especially here on this cut but essentially for the majority of their catalog I've heard over the years.
Some cute videos.........like the joint that does Van Halen "Hot For Teacher" over for the Internet age.
Some pseudo-daring but ultimately unevntful cross-genre pollinations/collabs that never never sprout into or amount to memorable musical moments.
But nah, I heard synth sounds that spoke to me deeper playing arcade games as a kid.

...it's pink and fluffy 80's crap and *that* needs to be cured by Motörhead; had they retained more of what I like about them, I would never have brought up Motörhead...
