"That feeling you get when you finally ID that house music song"
I swear to God, house music is probably the most elusive genre of music to identify besides jazz. You literally have to hope and pray that you can recite the melody to someone who is either a ridiculous house head or be lucky enough to know a DJ personally. Tonight, at 3:29 EST. I identified one of my all time favorite house songs. This song and it's beautiful melody has haunted me for damn near 25 years. I'm talking back when I was a hardshoe, 5 part in my hightop fade, skinny house dancing bastard. I could never identify this track but tonight in a Bacardi Anejo infused iTunes search for new music, accidently stumbled across it, and I felt like I just captured bigfoot. Is there nothing better than getting closure? I feel like a part of my life is now complete, that's how much this song meant to me. And now without further ado, my muse.

A year or so ago I updated my iOS and lost all of my tags. I emailed Shazam and within a day they emailed me a list of all of the songs I had ever tagged. Talk about relieved.

I posted on here a few times this one song I was in love with from my childhood. It wasn't until Dante Nero talked about the same song on his Beige Phillip podcast and played it that I learned the name. This is that glorious song.
AND I was on the train. I was smiling so big that morning. I hit him up on twitter as soon as I got topside. It's crazy because he was just talking and had the song playing in the back and I thought yo...that's that song, please say the name PLEASE. He not only said the name of the show but he named the artist and told a story about seeing them perform at The Paradise Garage.

Bout to hit it hard though. I miss playing. Been here bout a year and a half and I've played..5-6 times maybe. Just been chillin and figuring out the landscape.

12. "Never Forget, U Don't Know Me, Numero Uno" In response to Reply # 0
i went to Body & Soul NYC in like 1998/99 and the DJ (probably Danny Krivit) played Hardrive's 'Never Forget' and i almost exploded w/joy i was so thrilled by that track. i had to have it.
all i could remember was the woman singing 'WHEN YOU TOUCH ME'. it took months to find it b/c i'd heard it before its release. so even the ppl at Gramaphone in Chicago didn't know it. and they thought i was crazy. LOL
around the same time my friend gave me a DJ's mixtape (or whatever) and toward the end there was this song...i just had to have it. i literally took the cassette to Gramaphone and played it for them on my Walkman. they grabbed Armand Van Helden's 'U Don't Know Me'. i ended up buying the album on CD b/c i didn't have a turntable then. and i wore that CD the fuck out. the track is still one of my favorite songs of all time, period.
about a year later another friend gave me another mix CD that had a track at the end that just grabbed me. it's kinda melancholy i thought and was the perfect way to end that mix. hearing the song today still makes me sad b/c i associate it w/the end of that CD that i love. LOL

I remember buying this strictly cause it was a Louie Vega production, didn't listen to it fully until like 6 months later and fell in love with it, I've put this in a few of my mixes during the years.
I really dug it when they put this song on one of the "Body & Soul" compilations.

that's probably one of the last house records i bought. i was almost completely out of the house music game by that time, but that song was so dope, i had to have it. super classic.

that's my first time hearing that...i'm so familiar with the original that i can't fade this. they didn't do anything too crazy in that edit.
If you spin, or produce or whatever. It's really hard to just listen and allow yourself to be taken away by songs, because you're always on the grind, and you hear mixes, blends, whatever, in a different way.
When I first heard these two tracks I think I just went blind...i felt weightless...then i found them..Lawd...

I honestly don't think I ever felt that way about a song in my life. It was damn near spiritual. Virginia Beach Greek Weekend. I remember coming back to Philly and asking every record place I went to if they knew the song. All I could do was sing that hypnotic piano loop. NO ONE knew what the hell I was talking about. Song wasn't even out commercially yet. Still may be my all time number 1 house song ever.

I heard Music & Wine on the radio in a friend's car. I had no idea what the woma was singing and it took several tries humming the tune @ Gramaphone without success b4 a DJ friend just happened to play it when we were chilling. I almost broke his gear I was so excited to finally have the song.
I heard 'Cascades of Colour' in Old Navy. Then at an after hours loft party. And on the radio. My homie the DJ also had this one randomly a few months later (He is a great resource). I had found the song name but the version I'd heard at that after hours was the one I wanted and the homie had found it where I couldnt.

Now, I'd had this for a minute, but "The Great External Hard Drive Fire of 2010" took it from me. Was listening to Handzonradio one day a few years ago and it came on, but I was listening at work, and the pcs here arent the most up to date, so the tracklisting wouldnt come up (couldnt remember who it was for the life of me...before Shazaam or Soundhound). Called my homeboy, had him sign on and give me the info.
And now, I have this song in four different places (laptop, dropbox, external hard drive and phone)

is hearing an amazing house song in a DJ blend but mistakenly thinking that's how the original track songs. you finally track it down and it just feels like there's something missing. so you spend 15 years looking for a remix that does not exist.

I use to listen to this college radio show called "The Candy Store" that came on WNYU, I use to listen this show every Monday night religiously; anyway for a good two months they use to play a song by Johnny Dangerous "Only You": http://youtu.be/c_OosSWtprU (at the time I didn't know who it was or the title) in 2007 and it was just hilarious to listen to him talking but it was the beat that had me hooked even more.
So a few years later their show ended (damn I was sad when that show got cancelled) and I could never find the song cause I was looking for "That's Impossible" not "Only Yourself" so I tracked down the the main dj/host T.O. Sweet online and asked him what the hell that song was and that's when he told me they never played the original version or any version on the retail release but an accapella (tesp press only) over an deep house instrumental (probably by Blaze or somebody) and that was the reason I could never find that version on vinyl; mane I was so pissed, but at least I finally found out what the song was.
P.S. you can listen to a few shows that left on the WNYU website http://wnyu.org/archives?c=candystore from 2006 only but every show they did was pure bliss

56. "Tkumah Sadeek - "In Time" (Ron Trent)" In response to Reply # 0
Mine goes as follows:
First heard Ron Trent play this track in DC, he must've worked this track for 20 minutes or so... probably played the entire 8-9 minute instrumental, which had everyone wide open, then finally dropped the vocals, and the song went on for another 8-9 minutes. Had NO IDEA what the track was, but clearly it was the track of the night..
.. no luck on shazam, every DJ in the house was looking at each other shrugging their shoulders because nobody had it. The vocalist sounded familiar, but couldn't place it..
and now I had the artist's name - Tkumah Sadeek. So I followed her on Facebook and every single post on her page was asking her when she releasing "In Time".
Checked all my download sites, nobody had it. FINALLY, it was released... but only on vinyl and I ended up having to order it from Juno in the UK because it was sold out everywhere in the US if they ever carried it.
