"How would you rank DJ Quik's Discograpy?"

i ain't heard another rap album that has had a crib rocking like Rhythmlism has since.

that album still goes hard on the bumping cuts.

and if you wanna include his main productions with Sugga Free i'm cool there as well.

for me his prime and peak was 91-99

he had that drop ASAP after LA Reid told him he only wanted him as a Producer and not as a Artist. i remember the week before balance and options dropped and he was on the tavis smiley show on BET talking.

when Arista bought Profile Clive Davis had things set up for quik, however when clive got kicked to the curb and LA Reid took over then he went head hunting and balance and options got released real quickly

1. Rhythmalism (the production gives it a minor edge over Safe and sound)
2. Safe and sound
3. Quik is the name
4. Balance and options
5. Trauma
6. Way 2 fonky
7. Under Tha influence
8. The book of David
9. The midnight life

Street Gospel is the best he produced the majority of...if I ranked it with Quik's albums, it be a solid #3 on the list.

I feel like his voice has never left, and he has a few dope tracks...but even the dopest tracks just aren't comparable to the dope ones on other albums. I know some folks hate Balance & Options, but "Do I love her" is a CLASSIC in L.A....and tracks like "Well" were just amazing...the string build up on there? And even Under tha influence gave us "Trouble" which was big.

Rhythm still gets the edge for me only because of We Still Party
I find myself going back to Safe and Sound more than Rhythm
Street is definitely his best produced album...that shit bangs from beginning to end!!
Quik's weakness has always been his guest rappers...Hi-C and AMG in particular

I still would like to see a Sexy Leroy and Choc Lovelites album...Quik has a good singing voice for a project like that.

I'd just flip BOD with Trama. BOD gets bonus points for just giving me that old Quik feel

Quik is a top 5 all-time producer for me. I hold him in pretty high regard as an emcee as well. I've said it before, there's not a real flat out dud in dude's discography.
"BlaQKout' with Kurupt was dope. His live album from 2006 is also worth checking out.
I finally got my hands on the 2nd II None album "Tha Shit" that was supposed to come out on Death Row. That album is his DJ Premier/Group Home "Livin' Proof" moment. Cold ass beats with passable lyrics.

I was working at a record store when it came out around 2000 and I remember it being constantly sold out. I finally got to listen to it recently and, aside from a couple of duds with some no-name fool who sounds like a bootleg Mystikal, shit's fucking fire. Production wise, it sounds like it's between Rhythm and B&O.

We were still HYPE hype off of Rhythmalism....so most of us bought this ONLY because it was like "man, we can hear some new Quik right before Balance & Options?? I'm with it!"

Then, a lot of us realized that it was even better than Balance & Options! We were going nuts for Whistle.

KMEl Legends of Summer jam: T.I./Ja Rule/Bone Thugs/Juvenile/E-40 & The Clik (& Too $hort)/Dj Quik/Twista/Mystikal

He packed a lot in his half hr set, but I was like "are you kidding me? There's so much more for him to do!") So underrated, as a producer and a rapper with a very consistant catalog.

dude's subject matter never really improved with age and it got to the point where its just too obnoxious for me now

Rhythmalism and then Balance & Options seemed like he was beginning to broaden his mind a bit, but then just reverted to an adolescent with money

Few ppl have admired Quik as an artist the way I have but its kinda hard to respect dude after a while

^^^I do have to agree with this. I cringe at a lot of his lyrics later in his career, like, "this 40+ year old dood is still talking like he did when he was 19....." but the beats have been so good I've been able to overlook it.

and in between you never where he stands. i think he was about staying to being that R&B cat he wanted to always be and yet stay true to his hood and yet he was loyal to a fault and his biggest problem
was leaping into that next.

Quik album wise was never the same after balance and options though i dug the live album.
