Sometimes I had flashbacks to the come-up raps of Miller Mike's Pledge II. You could really feel how grateful he was for his position at times, and Fuck Wit You was a fun ass single but ultimately it was also a real good insight into his growth as a person, too. A lot of this album is built around that idea that material thrills only go so far, all while managing to satisfy that part of the brain that loves those thrills.

It's definitely a smarter release than I'd have ever expected.

Sean be saying some slick wordage..he's probably the most clever as far as the current school dudes out these days..its just his delivery is not authoritative at all, so he's easy to just dismiss.

he's got talent, its just he just goes for the lowest common denominator for his projects. Luckily for him, since he's on kanye's label, the lowest common denominator is easily a fantastic production house and access to solid guest stars, lol.

His verse on Paradise on this album (and Mike Will Made It's mixtape) is the best ive seen him spit.

Honestly though, id say its worth listening for his collaborators (rappers and producers) then what he puts out...they are good songs despite him kinda cruise controlling it.

Just makes a lotta super commercial songs...but he's actually good at doing it. Makes better club/radio songs than a J. Cole type, but raps much better than the usual Rich Homie Quan or even YG's out there. And has personality.

He's low-key been killing everything he's been on lately. Check his verse on meek mall's "b boy" and his verse on "Detroit vs. Everybody". I used to fuck with him cause he used to be on that game manager QB shit like trent dilfer where all he had to do was flow and not fuck up and the defense (in this case the beats) were dope enough to carry him but now duke is actually pretty nice on the mic. He ain't monch or black thought but he's dope for his lane of spitting.

Check that b boy guest spot, man he sonned meek terribly on there.

You make it sound like he's Cyhi the Prince or something.
For a punchline rapper with a puny voice, he's had a great career!
Handful of hit singles and placements on some of the biggest songs.

I don't think Iggy Azalea would have been allowed anywhere near the reign of terror she was handed to her. That song fucking slaughtered during 20 degree weather.

if you can accept the fact that the "Golden Era" of whatever Hip Hop you was waiting on to come back is gone?

...this album goes pretty fucking hard. Even the singing parts didn't make me cringe as much as usual.

like, this album is really fucking good.

the production is on point, but what really makes it that Big Sean not only has some earnest, grown man bars, but he finally let go of the corny, Nicki Minaj-esque punchlines in favor of wordplay that's actually witty and relatable.

shit, even the song w/ Ariana Grande is dope, and that's saying A LOT.

i haven't heard EVERYTHING but this is the best front-to-back rap album i've heard this year, hands down.

Impressed. "Win Some, Lose Some" and "Outro" are my favorite tracks right now.

some cornball stuff, but I ALSO knew he had bars and crazy cadences (them mid-west cats seem to put it together, for me). Just thought I'd give it a shot, and I was impressed. Youngin' even showed some introspectiveness in there, which is always a plus for me. Had no clue the jount dropped yesterday, til I as on my way home.

If you're going to review it, review it. Doing that is a disservice to your subscribers and to the artist. I've been disagreeing with several of his videos lately though, I thought he missed the mark on the video about white artists/cultural appropriation too

I've always said I'd respect the dude more if he just stuck to rock music, but I still wouldn't think too highly of him.

The hate has always been unfair. He's guilty of being compared to Kanye and Jay because of proximity when he's more like Mase 2.0.

It's crazy how Mase is revered but only has one album (and a few singles). Timing is everything...

He's rapping his ass off on here, but you don't learn how to rap overnight. He's always had bars and made good songs:

He has way more personality and is more entertaining than J. Cole (Logic also deserves a mention here).

Play No Games can be big. Chris Brown kills the Aaron Hall ad-lib.

Detroit wins again!

>He gets clowned whenever his name is mentioned.

I've seen quite the opposite. People clown him running to Atlanta and becoming a pastor, and being shot out of a cannon in that Harlem World video.

But musically he gets love. His catalog gets respect (people love the first album, the singles and act like the Harlem World and Double Up albums never happened).

He gets features today and prominent rappers pay homage.

Sean gets hella scrutiny and has had an excellent career that's trending up. Glad he's getting his due.

these middle class kids talking about how hard they worked and struggled to get where they are and they deserved the millions they making now...kind of irks me. To be fair, get the same from Drake and Kanye as well.

Small nit, but still bugs me.

so far, it's a toss up for rap album of the year for me between this and TPAB.

crazy thing to me about this album is i HATED Big Sean before this album dropped. thus, i put a lot of weight on this record because to turn me from a hater into a fan, it must be pretty fucking good.
