"Poll question: favorite MAYER HAWTHORNE incarnation" Sat Feb-07-15 04:05 PM by fontgangsta
If you're like me, this is basically an impossible poll, but lets see!
(had to throw the last one in there since he's got 20+ officially released covers at this point, pretty much all fire - the Impressions EP, Stay, Royals, Playing Your Game, You Make My Dreams, Crush On You, Time Will Reveal, I Ran, Get Ready.....)

Where Does This Door Go? Give it the serious listen headphone treatment. It's gonna give you the most looks and it's the most polished & current, stylistically But the point of this post is that he's explored so many styles, what you like best is gonna depend on what you're into otherwise.

its been more packed to the point that the last time i saw a 'mayer' show, it was uncomfortably crowded. so he is getting bigger, but not nec big enough to warrant larger size venues than what he plays thats why i LOVED the jaded show i saw in brooklyn. A, it was just nice to hear him play some new material, but B, there was hardly anyone there. I know its kind of selfish and hipsterish, but i like feeling like I'm in on a secret that people haven't caught up with yet.
but my best friend (who i turned on to mayer) every time i bring him up, he gets confounded and almost angry trying to figure out why he isn't more popular.
I've said it before and ill say it again - his label took a SERIOUS L by not making a vid for Stars Are Ours with Pharrell dancing around in it - that album was barely getting pushed when Happy was blowing up. Serious missed opportunity.

i loved pharrell's presence on the album, btw. he gave mayer vintage "beautiful"-esque neptunes shit with "wine glass woman" and this newer p with "stars are ours". even a steely dan tribute! ("reach out richard")
and yeah, more exposure (ie radio) would've really extended mayer's reach with WDTDG.

There's only so much blue-eyed soul the general public can handle, I guess. And for sure on the label level. WDTDG coulda woulda been big if a sliver of the push Blurred Lines did.
