But it was just that Vast Aire had hit some kind of stride on The Cold Vein that we hadn't heard before and made it much more majestic than it probably was.

Not that there's anything wrong with working hard, I get it. But I don't think being THAT good came especially natural to him. I think it was one of the guys in Hangar 18/Atoms Family that said Vast had worked for years on those verses for that album. And yeah, it's all time great lyrical performance, but there's also some distinction to be made for lyrical performances that take lots of work, and the performances of say, Ced Gee and Kool Keith during the "Critical Beatdown" sessions. By all accounts, they scribbled down everything **right** before they got in the booth, and were reading off paper, and also gave all time great performances.
I will say that Vast did stay good for a little while longer. I'm the guy that liked "Look Ma, No Hands," and a lot of his guest appearances up to the mid '00s were dope. Last thing I liked him on was that track with the Wisemen in 2007.

His voice is just so visual and gothic, so the more time he puts into being descriptive the more magical his raps sound. I remember hearing Cold Vein, then scouring the internet for everything he had released previous to it. None of the rhymes came close. I do think the spacegoth feel of "The Cold Vein" made his rhymes shine a little more.

I do not enjoy Vordul Mega's rapping very much at all. Also, Vast's Ox 2010 and Deuces Wild were awesome.
To each his own I guess.
On the topic of the album however, not holding out much hope for it. Cannibal OX WAS LP. To me the group cannot exist without him. I did't like the songs that Vast and Mega have done together in the last few years much either.

Folks saying his performance on Cold Vein was one of the best ever and he's slowly fallen off LP after LP. His ideas, rhyme schemes and even actual words havent changed much in the 14yrs since
I really like Look Mom No Hands and Dueces Wild tho. The last one was trash and all the other ones with Mighty Mi and his boys are mostly miss

It's solid. Dug Mega's verse the most. Didn't like DOOM's verse that much. The beat was traditional sounding for him. He needs that sloppy shit to rock too.

As I feared, Vast is not so good. Both his verse and the hook were blah. Beat was some generic "futuristic" shit. DOOM wasn't exactly setting the mic ablaze. Vordul was the best part.

...let's battle ish, the only way Ox would get some respect back from heads would be if they came back THAT dope with this LP (Can't see it being even close to their jump off) OR calling out EL and Killer Mike, since Run the Jewels went at them...that said, at this point, Ox don't want it on some back and forth with them cats. Will be interesting to see if they respond subliminally somewhere on this release...

I feel that everyone who has said Vordul Mega raps better than vast is suffering from crack cocaine addiction, but to each his own. I'm feeling it overall, I'll be back with more specific thoughts after a few more listens.
