"I'm not exactly sure why I'm posting this but..."
Ed Lover has a show on Sirius BackSpin Radio.
I'm in the car listening to him interview Cuban Linx.
Cuban is talking about how he wrote the chorus on a song for Puffy's record and didnt get royalties from it but got credit and that this was one of the big things that led to him doing other things like "Off The Books".
The rest of the convo goes something like this...
Ed: "Off The Books"? What did you do on there? Cuban: "Off The Books"! You know "Fly Pelican Fly" You knew that. Ed: "No I don't". Wait. You wrote that? Who did you write that for? Cuban: I was on the song. It was my verse(Then he proceeds to say serveral more lines from the song) Ed: Oh, Oh, Oh, yeah, yeah, okay.
Long story short. I can't stop shaking my head. I almost punched my radio.
Don't get me wrong. Cuban is not a household name and I don't expect everyone to know who rapped on "Off The Books" but what I do expect is that fricken Ed "YO! MTV RAPS" Lover would know.
He had no clue. And anyway, how are you going to interview someone on your own radio show and not at least know what their most popular song is?!?!?!?
It's not like Cuban Linx has a massive catalog of classic material to keep up with.
This is where we are with it. This is what hip hop culture has come to. smh
