to be honest, I was expecting to just dl and occasionally listen as background music, like I do his free albums, but this new one blew me away.
even joints like "Big Dusty", which I first heard as a single and thought, "oh, he's not putting anything new into his big retail debut, like, at all", feel great in the context of the album. to me.

but no, i won't be copping. its too predicable boom-bap. its very good for what it is, but its not "spend money" good id support him via a concert though.

Pretty much spot on for me.

nah, not really - it could be interpreted a number of ways. depending on what you think this album actually IS, and WHAT you thought LB was making, at the time AND in retrospect - it seemed like a generic statement designed to get a reaction rather than actually SAYING anything.
BUT that said i also disagree with this
>and concert are great, but buying units is a mandate.
it may be a mandate if you're trying to prove an artists worth to a major label - but i don't really care about that anymore. thats the old paradigm. i DO care about putting money directly in the pockets of artists i respect and enjoy. traditionally, buying albums is NOT the way to do that.
that said, this album isn't on a major (i don't think? am i right about that?) so buying THIS cd may not be the usual pennies on the dollar share to the artist.
but even given THAT - this album doesn't move me enough to drop the cash - whereas i think id have a good ass time at one of his shows. i think he probably spits live the way you HOPE a lot of your favorite rappers do, but actually don't.
don't even get me started with scratch, man. that was my baby! the issues that led to it shuttering are too much to get into here. but...
>if something is being tested by a major (i think this actually is on a subsidiary/major distribution) and it "flops". >that's it. >you're never going to get another one despite the potential for one to flourish under different circumstances or not.
again, i just don't think majors matter anymore. like at all. the Pro Era crew are more than capable of wild success on their own terms with a large digital presence, minimal distro, and robust touring. but despite my feelings on that paradigm, as i said, I'm not copping because it didn't move me like i wanted it to, unfortunately.
