but Trinidad James didn't have anything big to add after that. The follow-up pretty much proved that. Truth be told, I'm surprised that it took so long for that area of ATL to get national exposure. There was a period about 7-8 years ago where a lot of new artists were coming out but none of them got a national push outside of Janelle Monae on the R&B side. None of the rappers got on like I thought they would.

I thought Weerdo was great and they had some chops musically. I still hear about Go Dreamer and Tuki but I don't really like their solo stuff as much as what they did with Hollyweerd.

There was a post here years ago with links to all of them but that's long gone. I kinda want to see what some of them are up to now.

supposedly "mad" rappers always talked about how rap became a minstrel show, (Ebony and) Ivory Tower-types also cosigning that idea.

but looking at what the majors are trying to promote nowadays I can't help but wonder if a degree of "cooning" is required to even get exposure

like if an artist is like "fuck this shit, this is what I want to do"...

just looking at recent shit from Waka Flocka Flame et al I'm wondering now. is it just the sound of the times? more rappin' in the indies?

or is it really an artist's revolt?

like, Trinidad James was so ridiculous, and so was his song. Using "nigga" as a rhythm guitar lick and shit

but let him do something else ... POOF

I'm beginning to think Shmurda getting in legal troubles might have been the "best" thing for him, because I doubt he was ever gonna have a second hit or even a bunch of songs people wanted to hear

Rae Sremmurd? I wouldn't call what they're doing "cooning" but they seem way more like a comedy act (I can't even decipher if they're really just some older teenagers or some kids spitting ghostwritten shit)

ain't no room for these dudes to branch out

I saw a top 50 list posted by a guy in the lesson, he had a couple
releases from that label. The Rome Fortune guy had an album in his top 5 I think.

That label doing good things?

I only know of the ILoveYakamein dude by name and his one song.

The label worth checking out?

I'm not super up on what's coming out of ATL.

I hear Migos is actually some spitters too.

Just out the loop I suppose.

Their shit is cool but I haven't heard anything from them on par with those early OE tapes.

He needs to settle on a sound but Im interested to see what this guy does in 2015.

>rome fortune

Great beat selection but his lyrics aren't nothing particularly new or interesting. Good smoke session music though.

>ilovemakkonen

This dude has hooks for days. He might be a legit star.

Overall though, I listen to Key! more than any of those guys.

I've liked the last one or two TJ songs he released post Def Jam so I wouldn't count him out yet. He seems pretty well-liked in atlanta so I'm sure he'll be able to still get some decent features.
