there are too many bad artists that think "the grind" legitimizes them

discuss?

you can try to make it not matter but it always will.
yes, prince prolificness is part of the analysis when i evaluate him.

the fact that he created several distinct sounds and then just dropped them to make another sound is part of the appeal.

but let's take prince out of the equation.
let's use a lesser talent. d'anglelo, for instance.
the fact that he was in tw studio for 15 years makes me listen to these songs harder
than if musiq soulchild dropped it. i search for more meaning because of the backstory,
and because of that, my emotional reaction the music is different.

my point is, your perception of an artist affects how you hear the music.
and there's nothing wrong with that.

you are implying that anybody that hasn't blown up yet shouldn't.
every once in a while of somebody hands me their mix tape I'll give it a listen.

some of these unsigned cats are talented.

they are still pushing their mix tapes because they believe in their projects.
and they should.

clearly, labels struggle with identifying and nurturing and promoting talent nowadays.
it's plenty of ppl that should have contracts, but don't.
as a result, they stay on their grind.

i don't see the problem.

plenty of talented cats push their shit but i think the more talent an artist has the more they can rely on crafting good shit than "grinding" but never creating something even average

id also assume almost all good & successful artists are also very hardworking, but they work hard to make good stuff not inundate you with crap

And saw the effort that a guy like Homeboy Sandman put in to differentiate himself from the guys who were "on the grind".

like for instance Bill Withers had the same down home folk vibe as AL Green and while Green had more flash and personality, Withers didn't have a distinctive thing as AL with is voice,etc..

however Withers had the songs and still made his Scotch and Whiskey voice work to wide appeal to this day.

both can happen in a similiar time and era.

mistermaxxx R.Kelly, Michael Jackson,Stevie wonder,Rick James,Marvin Gaye,El Debarge, Barry WHite Lionel RIchie,Isleys EWF,Lady T.,Kid creole and coconuts,the crusaders,kc sunshine band,bee gees,jW,sd,NE,JB

Miami Heat, New York Yankees, buffalo bills
