"A Hail Mary Passed has just been made... The last Tribe album"

is in the works.
it is slate to come out
last quarter of 2015.

hypothetically,

how would it sound?

who would be the executive producer?

q and ali are two of the producers
but who else?

Would have a few Dilla beats, possibly more Jay Dee sounding than Dilla, if there's anything left that hasn't been used.

If Kanye wanted to get on some Hip Hop shit, he'd have a track on there, out of his respect for them and because he's super huge. Same for Pharrell...he would cook up something for them.

They would keep their same overall sound, but have a few songs that went for a slightly modern polish to them. I can see them rapping over something like "Venice beaches" from Fonzworth Bentley.....or "She needs me" from Kendrick.

The overall mood would be similar to "Love movement" which had a great vibe and energy to it, just didn't have enough bangers to back it up beyond "Find a way" "Like it like that" and maybe 1-2 other tracks that were dope.

The "darkest" or most political song would be more on the happy/uplifting tip than anything dark or depressing. I feel like Rap will be headed this way next year due to all the Ferguson/Eric Garner type incidents...it'll be a lot more "conscious" type of songs released from the non-club artists.

That would be a very good answer to how to approach this. They'd actually be able to rock on a number of Kendrick beats.

They are "TRIBE" enough for Tribe to rock on but updated for 2014+.

I can't name a lot of names that I think will honor the project properly. I say Kanye too, if his head is really in it. Not really looking for guys to be tossing beats at Tribe.

And it'd be as lackluster as The Love Movement.

If I could A/R it then the direction would be:
No Dilla beats
No Pharrel
Based around samples
2 Q-Tip solo songs (1 "normal" one "abstract.")
MAX 1 Phife solo.
MAX of 2 guest spots, one being Large Pro.
If Busta's the other then we must not be able to understand 65% of what he says on first listen.
98 BPM or greater.
Faith Evans is barred from the record.
So is Consequence.

The singles would each have a remix on side B, plus a non-album track with guest spots. 3 singles - all for the streets.

(Maybe I just described what the follow-up for Midnight Marauders could have been.)

Tip should handle most of the production. Let Pharrell and Ye assist a little. Put some rare Dilla on there if it's any available at this point.

i'm all for a "throw beats at tribe" approach, with q-tip executive producing it.

get all the big producers who were influenced by tribe, and get their BIGGEST productions. tell them that this is your love letter to tribe and everything they've done for you.

get: kanye, pharrell, ?uest, d'angelo, large pro, black milk, 88, havoc, alchemist, pete rock, madlib, etc.

throw the posse cut to end all posse cuts right in the middle of it.

phife solo in there.

and end it with a tip solo, with some grand orchestral closing.

basically, go out with the biggest bang possible. even if it fails, at least it was an ambitious.

Or is this one of those, "What if"/"Armchair A&R or Executive Producer" posts? I don't know what to think with that D'Angelo record coming literally out of no where.

A 14 track album including:

1 Pharell produced song... he'd be doing for one of his inspirations and not just for a crossover hit

1 posse cut (tribe and one other group)
1 busta feature

Built on mostly samples, and the budget should be large so that Tip and Ali can fly to Gilles Peterson's basement to dig through obsure jazz for at least 3 months

And a couple live instrumentation tracks (with the Roots or Vanguard?!)

and no music not made for this album specifically. I'd have Ali take more of an active role in production, and work alongside Tip. They really need that chemistry back and it'd call for limited usage of other producers-they don't need the assistance anyhow.
If anyone gets a production spot, I'd say Pete Rock should get his off with them officially.
Branching back out with the subject matter is crucial, the girl songs are cool but there's lots of ground they could cover in their own unique way.
Have all those guys you folks mentioned in the video.

I like Pharrell but no, no Skateboard P., no Conyay Kardashian, no wanna-be Native Tongues, don't need gimmicks & trendy production, I want ATCQ sound instead, they did three albums on their own, and two with additional help from J-Dilla & Raphael (and Dilla's gone & Mr. Saadiq isn't down with Ummah any more), but what I have problems with is that now that Baby Chris isn't there to help them focus on putting out the final product that they will just get side-tracked and won't give their fans nothing but make 50 new unreleased songs & break-up again.

...unless Tip comes in behind him and tweaks his drums. It would throw me all off if all of the beats except 'Ye's have hard snares.
