cluelessly gallivanting around thinking people see him as some "street legend" rapping about shit he's seen on netflix drug dealer documentaries like he lived it...

constantly getting his "real pound-sign x4" pass invalidated every 6 months or so.

can you imagine if nas had gone into his 30's thinking he was legitimately "crime-related" and rapping accordingly instead of retiring escobar in his mid-late 20's?

i mean if you think the firm was a fiasco imagine him at 38 years old hocking that same bs.

e.g. ricky rozay #hoodbillionaire

nas at least (unsuccessfully) tried to go in different directions as time passed.

rick ross has been doing the exactly same thing for a just shy of a decade.

It'd be a staple of his diet. You motherfuckers don't know shit about vegemite or how to eat it, yet you disrespect it every chance you get.

I don't care about the kangaroo fucking jokes or whatever, but when you start taking shots against vegemite this shit gets personal. I don't know where you live, but when I find out I'm gonna go up there, serve up some vegemite toast and I guarantee you'll be on your hands and knees begging for forgiveness, just like Nas was in that fateful meeting with Jay when he signed with Def Jam.

Bitch.

Nas is an otherworldly talent, Rick Ross excels in an era of diminished returns. Even at his best, he's nowhere near Nas in skill. A large part of why that Escobar stuff worked is because of Nas' talent with writing and rapping, and it stopped working because at a certain pint the songs became more about the image and persona than the technique.

lyricism means nothing to rap music beyond about 2000.
there's many more parts to a song beside the rapping.
rick ross has made infinitely better music than nas has the last 8 years and i don't think many people could argue otherwise.
in fact, i think a case could be made rick ross' music is better than nas' escobar period (it was written/the firm and the last glimmers in 1999-2000).
the escobar period mirrors rick ross entire persona and career.
nas eventually just grew up after about 25, where as ross is a 40 year old man who still is faking jax harder than a 19 year old punk.
i guess when faking jax made you rich - there's really no reason for ross to stop even though he probably could (like nas did) and ultimately would still be rich/famous regardless.

Life is Good is better than anything Rozay has ever done ever and will ever do ever. And it's like 4th in Nas' catalogue.

ALL OF THESE RAP NIGGAS LYING ON THEIR RECORDS (C) Pimp C

They lied in the 80's and 90's just as much as they do now. Look no further than Ice T. The only difference between the eras is social networks weren't around to verify these artists authenticity 24/7. If your argument is rappers sticking with the same content throughout their careers then look no further than 50 Cent and Hov. 50 Cent's "aggressive content" does not hold the same weight it did at the start of his career. Hov reached with American Gangster. Don't tell me you believe Jeezy's claims that he pushed that much coke.

Leave Ricky Rozay alone and LET HIM BE GREAT. Every artist is lying in their records.

>Popularity and impact don't always tell the true story.

It tells enough of a story to place them in the discussion of hip-hop history.

Motherfuckers invent new ways to demean modern hip-hop artists every day and this post is proof.

You said "let him be great" and at this point there's nothing great about him. Why you think it has anything to do with demeaning him because he's modern, and not because his music isn't worthy of being great, is more of your problem than it is mine.

All those Esco songs were written as fiction with the understanding that the fans knew it was fiction. He wasn't positioning it as his life and times. It was more about the art of storytelling...illmatic was the bio. That's the major difference. Ross is out there acting like he's really doing that shit and even though we know he isn't he's sticking to his guns (which is kind of impressive in its own way). It's a bad comparison in my mind.
