and that's golden era prince. it doesn't even mention the James Brown kick he got on in the 90s.

and one of my favorites (that didn't make it to an album) was the remix of "Rock and Roll Love Affair". That sounded up like some '79-80 disco-rock Prince.

This was my argument about the Mark Ronson recs etc.. you stuffy an era so long that you want to capture the feeling those records give/gave you.
If you are a musician and you hone your chops on a certain type of music.. It's always gonna be contained in your current output.. it's just a range of how much nostalgia you want to put in it.
