Martin Short

Too Short "Freaky Tales"
http://youtu.be/ZYy8FOAVMsU

Why: He just published a book called 'I Must Say: My Life as a Humble Comedy Legend,' and I'm sure he's got some tales in there...probably not in the vein of Too Short's freaky tales, but still.

Gabrielle Union

Slum Village/Dilla "Sensation"
http://youtu.be/UzrziTv4sZI

Why: She's the celebrity ambassador for Sensationail. I actually was looking for the link to another track called "Sensation" that is like a 22-second interlude (think it's like Fantastic Vol. 1-era), but couldn't find it. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

On Mulaney, he plays Lou Cannon...the host of a game show called "You Guessed It!" which is also his catchphrase.

Martin Short
Hot Chocolate's "Brother Louie"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiM6hF1naXE
REASON: He plays Lou in MULANEY.

Gabrielle Union
Sesame Street's "Number 5"
http://youtu.be/GsLLpyL1dI4?t=13s
REASON: Outside of being one of my favorite SESAME STREET moments and song on THE SESAME STREET RECORD on Columbia (and yes, I was 5), she is in a new movie called TOP FIVE.

ALTERNATE PICK
Jurassic 5's "Monkey Bars"
http://youtu.be/-mHoJeI8d5Q?t=2m4s
REASON: It has the Sesame Street "Number 5" sample, in relation to her being in TOP FIVE.

Martin Short

#1: Day By Day-Godspell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3PjfBQjJT8

Why? He often talks of appearing in a 1972 Toronto production of this show. (Along with Eugene Levy, Gilda Radner, Andrea Martin, Dave Thomas, and Paul Schaffer.

Day by Day was the only "hit" from the show. (Maybe you recall the Simpsons episode called "Pulpit Friction" where Homer does a parody of it.)

Or call Mr. Schaffer or Dr. Evil and ask if they have audio or know what Martin's big song was from the production.

#2: There's No Business Like Show Business - Ethel Mermen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVMXw_y7jyI

Why? I think he could sing his way out and really amp it up.

----
Gabrielle Union
Rick James - Mary Jane
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4JKOOGV35E

Why? She's on a show called Mary Jane - and I couldn't think of a melodic song that used the phrase "Gift of Gab."

It's especially funny that they played this for Gabrielle, as the recent 'New Yorker' article on 'Top Five' revealed that at a Def Jam 30th anniversary event, Union introduced the premier of the film's trailer and botched the title (she called it "Top Ten").

That sounds like a ridiculous mistake, but is made even funnier if you think that Black Thought is shouting "number one, two, three, four, and FIVE" at her repeatedly to correct this error.

Reese Witherspoon
W.A.S.P.'s "Wild Child"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsoLb-E7oy8
REASON: She has two new movies and two films out now, not which one she's going to promote (all four?) so I'll aim at one of her forthcoming films, WILD.

David Sedaris
A Tribe Called Quest's "Scenario"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6TLWqn82J4
REASON: Sedaris has an unpublished story called THE POO CORNER so I want to focus on the last part of Charlie Brown's verse where he said:
"For the flex, next, it's the textbook old to the new
but the rest are doo-doo
From radio, to the video, to Arsenio
Tell me! Yo, what's the scenario"

ALTERNATE PICK
Rolling Stones' "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UIGk_VFUbE
REASON: Sedaris has an unpublished story called THE POO CORNER so I want to focus on this song.

Angelina Jolie
Louis Prima's "Angelina"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqA4IviTEwQ
REASON: Name recognition.

Jack O'Connell
I'm assuming O'Connell will be there in a joint interview with Jolie right, since they're in the same film? If he has his own moment, then...
Hot Chocolate's "Brother Louie"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiM6hF1naXE
REASON: If the song is not used earlier in the week, used this here since he plays Louis/Louie in UNBROKEN.

Nick Offerman
The Vandals' "Power Mustache"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vDlKvolERk
REASON: Due to his mustache, thus:
"Mustache is a symbol of repression and of hate
never trust a man with a butt broom on his face
it's the facial marking of the man who holds you down
the source of all your problems, every city, every townt
Fight! The mustache power!
Fight! The mustache power!
Fight! The mustache power!
Fight! Fight! Fight!"

It's more or less a joke song and is meant to be humorous, not a blast against him.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken - hmm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bRJLkNqNXI <-Example Nitty Gritty Dirt Band/Cash version from 89 (I couldn't find the 1972 version)

Why? The new film is called Unbroken. And I'll bet James knows a funky arrangement.

--
Nick Offerman

I'll just cut and paste my suggestion from his last 4 appearances:

Nick Offerman
Shabba Ranks is Mr. Loverman
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8BOZyaMrn8

Why? Change it to : Mr Offerman - Swanson!

Chris Rock

KRS-ONE "Step Into a World"
http://youtu.be/eC-i7XeXqg0

Why: "I'm not saying I'm number one, uh, I'm sorry, I lied, I'm number 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5." His new film is 'Top Five.'

16. "my picks but fiirst, I offer you a message to give to Nate Mendel"
In response to Reply # 4

Nate is the bassist from Foo Fighters and lived in Richland, Washington, which for me is the town across the bridge. He and band mate Eric Akre sold me the first Diddly Squat record, their (his) first record, when I was a DJ on KTCV, the high school radio station I was a part of. While he is a worldwide "entertainer" now, let him know that a guy from Pasco, Washington who he sold his record to when I was 16 has remained a fan through all of the bands he has been in (Christ On A Crutch, Brotherhood, Sunny Day Real Estate, and now Foo Fighters) and simply wanted to say "it's been a long time since your days working at Burger Ranch. Keep on going." For further proof, if you remember to do so, show him this picture of him skateboarding in 1987.
http://tinypic.com/r/2i95cnm/8

Nate was one of the reasons I got into punk rock, due to the "jazzy" ways he plays and the fact he plays a Fender Jazz bass. I know you like the nerdy stuff so feel free to pass the message along. His music was also one of the few reasons I got through high school.

Now, my picks:
===============
Chris Rock
Steady B's "Serious"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1W4qCVKHsY
REASON: The movie is about a comedian who wants to be known as a serious actor, so I felt this would be cool.

Ruth Wilson
Chicago's "Brand New Love Affair (Parts 1 & 2)"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDPqvyMuC1k
REASON: She stars in THE AFFAIR and since this is a Chicago song from one of their albums that are generally ignored, I want to shine the spotlight here. The chorus is:

"What I'd give to erase the pain
will we every make friends
is it over or shall we try again
for a brand new love affair

Sweat From My Balls

From the movie Chris starred in, CB4, because....it's funny and would go kinda hard as intro music.

Chris Rock
I Got 5 on it - Linuz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSC9cgvtkRs

Why? Top five. (And I don't think my "Fiver Get Over Excited" by The Housemartin suggestion would be played.)

Two Suggestions from the Juan Epstein Podcast:
Kanye West - So Appalled feat. RZA, Jay-Z, Pusha T, Swizz Beatz, Cyhi The Prynce
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5QhNpEFsik

Why? His all-time album is this.

Freddy B & The Mighty Mike Masters - It's the Hip Hop
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivfh3_jQfGA

Why? Stumped ?uest.

(There are like 10 more good songs from that interview.)

--
Ruth Wilson
#1: Alice theme song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wedrJdHGHFM

Why?I loved her in Luther - even when people in Pass The Popcorn kept calling her Duck Lips.

Cameron Diaz
The Buggles' "I Am A Camera"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNNZl300klA
REASON: I always request this for her when she appears, so I'll try again, to say "Cameron" instead of "Cameron".

Cedric The Entertainer
MC Rell & The Houserockers' "Life Of An Entertainer"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBJwBbvWAGY
REASON: Kicking it back to 1989 for this one, Philly style, for name association.

Cedric The Entertainer
Rap Promoter - ATCQ

Why? He plays a rap promoter in Top Five.

---
Cameron Diaz
#1: Feel Love (Benji's Theme) - Charlie Rich
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8en_0oRv8w8

Why? She's engaged to someone named Benji Madden.

#2: Gap Band - Shake
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZHrYI1zrM4

Why? She likes to dance her way out the secret door - this has a good beat. (And I'm not suggesting The Tavares one more time.)
