But the only Slaughter House song I have on my iTunes is a remix El-P did for Hammer Dance (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akpz2CT-pgc) and it made me wish I could hear them rock over his (or beats like this) more than the niggas they stay fucking with.

But, if we're gonna be honest, his production tends to be an acquired taste and will probably never be accepted by the mainstream.

Thumbs down to the OP for using this great time for RTJ to try to throw shade by making a very unjust comparison.

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

I hope the album SH recorded with all the Just Blaze/Illmind/Arrabmusik beats gets released next year. I NEED THAT ALBUM.

>aka hiphop

Some are all about bars and punchlines while others are about a The Message (that's the
name of an early Hip Hop song, just sayin).
As a matter of fact, Hip Hop started with more storytelling than just "look how good I rap" shit.
But by all means, enjoy the type of Hip Hop you like. Nothing wrong with that at all.

they are all very good at rappin in my book, and I have songs by each of them solo or as a group in my library

my point was simple, THIS song did nothing for me, and since Sev brought up RTJ, i said i prefer them over Royce, Joe, Budden, and Crooked

continue being upset though

Fan of Crooked I.
Fan of Royce.
BIG fan of Joell Ortiz.
But man, every one of their songs sounds the same, half the time you can't tell Joe Budden, Royce, Crooked I apart, and their live show is disappointing.
I want to like SH, but it just doesn't hold for me. At least I get a dope Ortiz verse every four minutes.

like they all have design documents for their verses in which punchlines and brags are interchangeable. not dissimilar to family guy cutaway jokes

on paper slaughterhouse is amazing but when i listen to their music i feel detachment between the artist and their verses, as if they rap like this because it's how they are supposed to rap. i never get any passion or insight from them but i suppose the slaughterhouse project isn't about that

not to mention that this style of rapping about rapping was done to death ~15 years ago. i felt that rappity-rap was experiencing diminishing returns back then. these days i get absolutely nothing out of it

Cats just need to post the music and KIM. When they make it a dispute
between another group it will always end up like this.

That said I've yet to be really impressed by SH. I'm a fan of all involved but they haven't reached their potential yet. Hell Royce on Bar Exam 2 had crazier bars. Only Joey gave me a memorable bar. I'm listen again. And I wouldn't accept this track from Premo at this point. It's mad middle ground. If you don't have anymore Group Home level heat I'll pass.

>Hell Royce on Bar Exam 2 had crazier bars.

He's been real strong before and after but he was rapping like someone owed him money on that mixtape. I still love a lot of those songs to this day.

He reclaimed a spot in my top 20 after that shit and I always check for his work since.

I don't think anyone's dislike of the song indicates joylessness (the most "joyless"
listeners around here tend to be the old fans anyway... another post for another day tho).
Already mentioned that he compared it to RTJ which has some insane production compared
to this beat... speaking of which, "good" is very subjective.

Can't expect much more from a SH song produced by Premier.

Everyone did their thing, even Budden. There's something about Royce's flow that I can't put my finger that makes him sound just eminently listenable...delivery-wise he may be the most "natural sounding" rapper I've ever heard

Man...I remember how hyped I was when they first came out.

Their first few songs were still the best...Move On Remix? Onslaught? The 15-minute DOA freestyle?

And then the album came out and it sounded like it was recorded in a week. Because it was. Since then, I haven't really been able to take them seriously

I think branding-wise the Shady move was good for their popularity but the music has gotten predictably uhh..Shady-sounding and that's not a compliment.

Question:

If people are into Soundgarden for the "bars", why are they even trying to put out Cee-Lo collaborations and acting like a pop-rap group?

They should do a pay-per-view event where they get some openers and then do like an hour session of them doing lyrics over popular beats/"classics"/mixed in with some of their songs

If their entire fanbase is inside smoking weed on a Saturday night in February, why not charge them $15 or $20 a pop and sell them an event? Music itself doesn't sell but events do, and Slaughterhouse has enough exposure via Shady that they could absolutely do it

Because I have no interest in their structured four minute songs but I (and I know I"m not alone) love the sessions where they go off for seven, ten, fifteen minutes..

Why not?

I thought their self-titled album was solid. I wasn't feeling Welcome To Our House, because I think they fell under the same trap that a lot of Shady Records artists fall under: sounding and being marketed more like an Eminem signee than as their own act. I liked the EP they dropped before that album though, that seemed to get closer toward getting group identity.

The House Rules tape they dropped earlier this year was pretty much exactly what I wanted to hear from Slaughterhouse. Dope production by people I want to hear them over (Illmind, Araabmuzik, Nottz, Harry Fraud), and strong identity. Some solo songs, some group songs, some topics, some just spitting. I'm really excited to hear this next album - I think they have much better *consistent* chemistry as a group now (they had some great songs together before, it just didn't always seem natural when they did the Shady-like songs), and I always trust Just Blaze's ear and ability to get a lot out of who he works with.

This Premo song is dope, BTW. And the RTJ2 comparison - and dissing people for liking what they like - were unnecessary.
