While Carrie Brownstein has pretty much set the blueprint for post rock star careers from solid music journo (she recently shouted out the Pusha T album in print) to becoming a cult comedic actress out of nowhere while the other two have made solid post breakup records its nice to have them back.
Sleater Kinney made some of the best guitar based rock music of the past 20 years or so and the fact that they were able to make very political/feminist based music without sacrificing technical ability or songcraft should be an aspiration for conscious artists trying to balance message along with music. They could be singing about bowel movements and it would have still rocked...id argue Brownstein's guitar work in particular was a revelation and she herself is underrated as a guitarist. (Going back to her successful career changes how can a motherfucker be so talented?)
I am, however, surprised they are releasing new material as opposed to just touring the old stuff. But their discography is pretty solid and they've all stayed very active musically...I have no doubt they will just pick up where they left off.
