Except the problem is that he's never reached that potential as a solo artist and the best of his solo albums hover around 3.5 mics. I'd say the best album he's done with his name on the title is the first "Blackout!".
I'll also say he does his best work on verses for Wu-Tang Clan albums or appearances on the albums of other Clan members or affiliates. He's either the best or second best at that type of thing, depending on my mood. And he's number #3 for guest appearances for non-Clan members. >Tical was dope but to some it was a bit of a disappointment. >Then Cuban Linx and Liquid Swords happened and Tical was an >afterthought.
Tical had a very good side one, but a very spotty side 2. Only like maybe three songs on the second half (Release, PLO Style, and Mr. Sandman). The other tracks on that second half were dreadfully boring.
>I don't think there's any question that Deck and Meth owned >Forever.
I personally give it to Deck and RZA (and GZA, who appearances, as always, were limited). But Meth was incredibly strong on that album.
>Then Judgement Day dropped and it again was a bit of a >disappointment. Maybe the fall of the Wu around that time had >something to do with it. Maybe people grew tired of the >crew...not sure.
I think it suffered from the same problem of a lot of the second Wu solo albums (and a few of the debut solo albums) released around that period: not enough involvement from the RZA, either as producer or as executive producer. Also, as I've said on here at least a few times before, it's one of those albums where the whole doesn't add up to the sum of it's parts. I can look at a tracklist and say, "Damn, I liked 10 of these songs a lot" but I've still never felt the need to listen to the album all that much.
>Blackout! dropped and was pretty well received but not as well >as How High.
Said it above, it's the album he made with his name on it.
>By the time The Prequal dropped, Meth was a complete >afterthought and the album was not good.
Man, I barely remember that album. I think I recall the single and the track with Busta, but that's about it.
>The Day After dropped and while is got good reviews, Meth was >well passed his prime.
Another album where I can look at it and love a lot of the single tracks but it never caught on as a whole. "Walk On" is one in my top three of Red & Meth collabos.
>What's your favorite song, verse, guest spot and album?
Song: Dangerous Grounds Guest Spot: Probably have to think about this more, but either GZA's "Shadowboxin" or Sunz of Man's "Collaboration '98" Album: Judgement Day Bonus - Favorite collab with Redman: Da Rockwilder -----------------
